2. Front Cover Process
• The first draft that I could make of my magazine
cover within the timeframe that I had consisted of
the title of the magazine (R.T. Monthly) and a
picture of the main focus of the magazine (that
being the character of Neo, short for Neopolitan,
from RWBY, an animated web series made by
Rooster Teeth, the focus of the magazine I am
trying to make. I used Photoshop to make this
happen, along with starting to cut away the
background of the image of Neo I took from the
internet. As for the text, I used the ‘Drop Shadow’
effect to create a shadow underneath the title ‘R.T.
Monthly’. The image of Neo that I took from the
internet came from the most recent episode of
RWBY, where she and another character, Cinder
Fall, have a fight in a bar. The reason I chose Neo
for the cover of the magazine is that she is a fan
favourite character in RWBY, and hasn’t been seen
in the series since the end of the third season of
the show (RWBY is currently in its sixth season)
and many fans have been anticipating the
moment where she would return.
3. Reflection
• I will most likely use a popular character for
the front cover of the magazine I am making in
this project, and cut out the background of
the image that they feature in, like I did with
Neo in my first draft of the magazine.
4. Double Page Process
• The first draft of a double-page
spread that I made for my 'magazine'
was of a faux-review of the latest
RWBY episode, entitled 'The Coming
Storm. The only real indicator that
this was supposed to be a double-
page spread article is that the title of
the article ("The Coming Storm"
Review) spreads across both pages. I
used the website Lorem Ipsum to
generate faux-text that imitated
what an actual article written about
this episode would look like, and
included images of the characters of
Neopolitan and Cinder Fall, two
characters that appear in "The
Coming Storm". At the end of the
article, I posted a 'final verdict'
score, which details a score out of
10, depending on my final thoughts
on the episode (in this case, I gave
"The Coming Storm" an 8.5 out of
10, which means that it was a very
good episode.
5. Reflection
• One element of my experiments that I will use in my
final product is cutting characters in pictures with
backgrounds out of the background, and pasting them
onto a page in a program like Photoshop.
• Another element of my experiments that I will use in
my final product is that in my double-page spread
article, I will make more of an effort to try and make it
obvious that the double-page is meant to be taken as
such, and not two separate articles. I will do this by
possibly pasting a picture between the two pages, as
well as making the title of the article (and possibly the
tagline underneath the title of the article) stretch
across two pages.
