2. Pre-proposal
Tell me in no more than 30 words your initial
thoughts about your FMP? E.g. what would
you like to do, etc…
Something that I would like to do would be
a docufilm trailer/posters for the docufilm, about
Monty Oum, the creator of RWBY, one of my
favourite anime series.
Why have you decided work in your chosen
medium? E.g. video, digital graphics, etc
I want to do some posters because it would give
me a chance to reference the works of Monty
Oum, and I want to do a video because I enjoy the
creative process of making any kind of video (a
trailer in this case).
Who is the project for? Think about the
intended audience…
The project is for fans of Rooster Teeth and their
works, since Monty Oum was the creator of RT’s
most famous work (RWBY)
What about your project makes it personal
and important to you?
The project will be about the creator of one of my
favourite anime series, a series that I’ve loved
since it began in 2013. I was really sad when
Monty died, and I’ve always enjoyed the tributes
that have been uploaded since 2015 (the year
Monty died).
3. Pre-proposal cont.
What effect do you want to have on your audience
when they see your product?
I want the people who view this docufilm trailer to be
interested in learning about the main focus of the movie is
(Monty Oum), the things he worked on (particularly
RWBY), and hopefully entertained by the trailer to the
point that they’re persuaded to want to watch the movie.
I want the people who view the posters for the
Monty Oum docufilm to remember it very well and have it
stand out in their mind. They should be able to recognise
the poster as something they’ve seen before when they
see it again, and should be intrigued by what’s going on in
the poster, in order to want to go and see the docufilm.
Describe the tone/mood/style of your potential
project [which techniques/characteristics are you
employing?]
The tone that I wish to take for the Monty Oum-docufilm
is a comedic one, given that the two main things that
Monty developed (RWBY and Dead Fantasy) are comedy
series’, and their creator was known as a rather funny
person. I wish to emulate this tone in my docufilm trailer.
Why have you decided to work in this style/genre? I’m choosing to work in this style and genre
because I’m good at it, and can make this project the best
that it can be if I make it in this style.
4. Skills Audit 1
Strengths:
• I have a good imagination when it comes to making
projects that I'm passionate about
• I give things that I'm super-passionate about my full
attention in order to make them the best that they can be,
in order to do them justice.
• I'm good at making posters and videos because I am skilled
at cutting things together, whether they're images or video
clips, and making them look like posters you'd see someone
make for a movie/TV show, or short film.
• I'm ambitious, which lets me try things that others wouldn't
usually try when it comes to things that I'm creating.
5. Skills Audit 2
Weaknesses:
• I'm stubborn. I don't like to do things that I don't want
to do, and that can make me suffer, grade-wise, as a
result.
• I'm not a confident speaker, so I wouldn't be able to
communicate my ideas as well as I would like to
verbally.
• I'm a very private person, and I'm not the best at
accepting help from other people when they offer their
assistance to my project, because I think that with their
help, my project won't be my project anymore, it'll be
both mine and theirs.
7. Mood Board Analysis
How does your mood board inspire your project?
• My mood board is inspiring to me because it's full of things I like,
and things that have spawned from things I like.
• Things I like on my mood board include Monty Oum, Rooster Teeth,
The Dark Knight and Captain America: Civil War.
– Things that have spawned from the things I like on my mood board include
RWBY, Dead Fantasy and Haloid (all series that Monty Oum either created
all by himself, or had a large creative role in)
• The posters that I posted in my mood board are all posters that I
wish to take inspiration from when making my posters for my
Monty Oum docufilm.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• This mood board will influence my final product by me creating my
docufilm trailer in the style of things that Monty Oum (the person I
am making this trailer/docufilm poster about)
8. Key Influence 1
RWBY (2013-Present)
• I first discovered RWBY through the 'Red Trailer', the first piece
of promotional material related to the show, a couple of months
after it was uploaded to YouTube in late 2012. I was hooked on
the series that the main character in the video, Ruby Rose, was a
cute girl (I was 11 at the time of first watching the video) with a
really cool weapon (a giant scythe that also functioned as a
sniper rifle), and I was one of the first to see the 'White Trailer'
that aired on YouTube a few months after the 'Red Trailer' aired,
and from then, I was hooked on RWBY, Rooster Teeth (the
company behind series' like Red vs. Blue and Camp Camp) and
Monty Oum (the main creative force behind the show).
• RWBY has gone on to have six seasons (titled as 'Volumes'), a
couple of videos games, several manga and comics adaptations,
a manga anthology, a comedy spin-off series, a young adult
novel is in the works.
9. Key Influence 1 cont.
RWBY (2013-Present)
• As well as this, Yang Xiao Long, one of the main
characters in RWBY, has appeared in the
popular web series "Death Battle!!" (which,
incidentally, is owned by Rooster Teeth, the
same company that makes RWBY), where she
fought Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, and
emerged victorious.
• The reason I'm influenced by RWBY is because
all the genres that it's classified as (science
fantasy, action-adventure and comedy-drama)
are genres of entertainment that I enjoy and
watch really often. As well as that, the show
has a diverse fanbase, and theories regarding
the show are always interesting to listen to.
10. Key Influence 2
The Dark Knight (2008)
• The Dark Knight is the second movie in
Christopher Nolan's Batman film trilogy (which
began with 'Batman Begins' and ends with 'The
Dark Knight Rises'. The film follows Batman
(played by Christian Bale) and his efforts to
combat The Joker (played by Heath Ledger),
who wreaks havoc and chaos on Gotham City.
• The film is considered to be the best film of the
2000s, and one of the greatest films of all time.
The film was nominated for eight Oscars, and
won two (Best Supporting Actor (this was
posthumously awarded to Heath Ledger) and
Best Sound Editing)
• The reason I am influenced by it so much is
that it delves into the themes of principles,
defeat (of the hero), duty and identity, themes
that I enjoy and find interesting in the media I
consume.
Editor's Notes
