What is procedure text?
 Procedure text is a text to describe how
to do , to use or make something.
 Procedure Text is text that explain how
something works or how to use
instruction / operation manuals.
Social Function:
The social function of a procedure is to
tell or describe the reader how to do or
make something through a sequence of
series.
Types of Procedure Text
 Texts that instruct how to do a particular
activity : recipes, rules for games, science
experiments, road safety rules.
 Texts that instruct how to operate things :
how to operate an appliance, a machine, the
photocopier, the computer
 The most common example of a procedural
text is a recipe.
Generic Structure:
• Goal
Something to achieve or outcome the
activity. (title, introduction paragraph)
• Ingredient/ Materials
The list and amount of things and materials
required.
• Steps
Activities / describing the steps to achieve
the goal.
Language Feature of Procedure Text
 Use imperative sentences (commands), for example, Cut,
Do not mix, ect .
 Using action verbs, such as cut, put, fold, wash, drill, twist,
turn, do not, mix, etc..
 Using connectives (temporal conjunctions) to sort of
activity, for example First, second, then , while, after that,
finally etc, etc..
 Using adverbials (adverbs) to declare the detailed time,
place, an accurate way, for example, for five minutes, 2
hours, etc.
 Using the Simple Present.
