through product development , promotion and 
pricing. Marketing begins before production of goods 
and continue even after the sale has taken place.

 Marketing research is a 
systematic collection of data 
relating to a marketing problem, its 
analysis and meaningful 
interpretation so that it facilitates 
decision making. 
 Product planning and development 
begins with identification of 
consumer needs . It find answers to 
number of questions like 
 What to manufacture or buy? 
 How to fix the price? 
 How to promote sales? 
 How to maintain quality standards? 
 What should be the colour ,size and 
other features?
Standardization , grading 
and branding 
Packaging 
 The setting up of standards or 
specifications of a product and 
maintaining these standards are 
known as standardization 
 Grading is done in accordance with 
the specifications set up by the 
standards. 
 To brand a product means to stamp 
it with some identifying mark or 
name. 
Packaging is traditionally done to 
protect the goods from damage in 
transit and to facilitate easy transfer 
of goods to consumers.
BUYING AND 
ASSEMBLING 
•Buying involves the 
determination of requirements, 
finding the source of supply , 
placing order and receiving 
goods. 
•Assembling means collection 
of goods already purchased 
from different sources and 
bringing them together to a 
common point. 
SELLING 
•The selling is a part of 
marketing and seller directly 
interacts with the customer . It 
is the point that marketing 
action takes place.
STORAGE TRANSPORTATION 
 Goods are generally produced 
in anticipation of demand . 
They have to be stored 
properly in warehouses to 
protect them from any 
damages. 
 Transportation helps in 
bringing the raw materials to 
the place of production and 
making available the finished 
products at the point of 
consumption .
SALESMANSHIP ADVERTISING 
 Personal selling is an 
important method of selling 
goods. It involves direct and 
personal contact of the seller. 
 Advertising helps to spread 
the message about the 
product and thus promotes 
its sales.
PRICING INSURANCE 
 Price of a product is influenced by 
the cost of production and services 
offered, profit margin desired, 
prices fixed by rival firms and 
Government policy. 
 Insurance provides protection 
against risks. They can cover the 
risks on payment of a nominal 
premium an recover the loss, if any , 
arising out of the risks.

MARKETING FUNCTIONS MARKETING RESEARCH PRODUCT PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT  Marketing research is a systematic collection of data relating to a marketing problem, its analysis and meaningful interpretation so that it facilitates decision making.  Product planning and development begins with identification of consumer needs . It find answers to number of questions like  What to manufacture or buy?  How to fix the price?  How to promote sales?  How to maintain quality standards?  What should be the colour ,size and other features?

Standardization , grading and branding Packaging  The setting up of standards or specifications of a product and maintaining these standards are known as standardization  Grading is done in accordance with the specifications set up by the standards.  To brand a product means to stamp it with some identifying mark or name. Packaging is traditionally done to protect the goods from damage in transit and to facilitate easy transfer of goods to consumers.

BUYING AND ASSEMBLING •Buying involves the determination of requirements, finding the source of supply , placing order and receiving goods. •Assembling means collection of goods already purchased from different sources and bringing them together to a common point. SELLING •The selling is a part of marketing and seller directly interacts with the customer . It is the point that marketing action takes place.
  • 8. STORAGE TRANSPORTATION  Goods are generally produced in anticipation of demand . They have to be stored properly in warehouses to protect them from any damages.  Transportation helps in bringing the raw materials to the place of production and making available the finished products at the point of consumption .
  • 9. SALESMANSHIP ADVERTISING  Personal selling is an important method of selling goods. It involves direct and personal contact of the seller.  Advertising helps to spread the message about the product and thus promotes its sales.
  • 10. PRICING INSURANCE  Price of a product is influenced by the cost of production and services offered, profit margin desired, prices fixed by rival firms and Government policy.  Insurance provides protection against risks. They can cover the risks on payment of a nominal premium an recover the loss, if any , arising out of the risks.
