Primary storage, also known as primary memory or main memory, is made up of semiconductor components like RAM and ROM. It is smaller in size and more expensive than secondary storage. Primary storage holds the data and instructions that the CPU is currently processing. It has a limited capacity and is volatile, meaning data is lost when power is turned off. Primary storage provides fast access for processing but is more expensive than secondary storage.

4. RAM (Random Access Memory)
 Random-access memory (RAM ) stores data and information that is currently
being used. Random access memory device allows data items to be read or
written .
 It is a read/write memory which stores data until the Computer is working. As soon as
the Computer is switched off, data is erased.
 RAM is normally associated with volatile types of memory ,where stored information is
stored for temporary purpose .
 The two operations that a random access memory can perform are
the write and read operations.

5. ROM (READ 0NLY MEMORY)
READ-ONLY MEMORY (ROM) is a type of storage memory that
permanently stores data on personal computers (pcs) .
 It contains the programming needed to start a pc, which is essential for
boot-up.
Because rom is read-only, it cannot be changed, it is permanent and non-
volatile, means it also holds its data even when power is removed.
There are many number rom chips located on the motherboard .
 The chips are essential for reading and writing to peripheral devices.

6. NEED OF PRIMARY STORAGE MEMORY
 Primary storage or memory stores data and programs temporarily during the operation of
computer.
 Without storage memory computer cannot remember or save data or information
 Rom is used only two time 1. starting pc 2 . shut downing pc .
 Primary memory is basically used for accessing the data with the great speed.

 It is faster in data processing than secondary memory.
 Small in size , and expensive
 Data stored in it is directly access by the processor or Cup .
 It is short term storage memory or capacity to store data is less .
