2. Internet Che cos’è Internet? Internet è una rete di computer mondiale ad accesso pubblico attualmente rappresentante anche uno dei principali mezzi di comunicazione di massa. Chiunque infatti disponga di un computer e degli opportuni software, appoggiandosi a un Internet service provider che gli fornisce un accesso a Internet attraverso una linea di telecomunicazione dedicata (ADSL, HDSL, VDSL, GPRS, HSDPA, ecc.) o una linea telefonica della Rete Telefonica Generale (POTS, ISDN, GSM, UMTS, ecc.), può accedere a Internet ed utilizzare i suoi servizi.

La nascita del WORLD WIDE WEB Nel 1991 presso il CERN di Ginevra il ricercatore Tim Berners-Lee definì il protocollo HTTP(HyperText Transfer Protocol), un sistema che permette una lettura ipertestuale, non-sequenziale dei documenti, saltando da un punto all'altro mediante l'utilizzo di rimandi (link o, più propriamente, hyperlink). Esso rivoluzionò profondamente il modo di effettuare le ricerche e di comunicare in rete. Nacque così il World Wide Web. Nel World Wide Web (WWW), le risorse disponibili sono organizzate secondo un sistema di librerie, o pagine, a cui si può accedere utilizzando appositi programmi detti browser con cui è possibile navigare visualizzando file, testi, ipertesti, suoni, immagini, animazioni, filmati.
4. I Social Network Che cos’è un Social Network? Si definiscono "social network " quei servizi web che permettono: la creazione di un profilo pubblico o semi-pubblico, l’articolazione di una lista di contatti, la possibilità di scorrere la lista di amici dei propri contatti. Attraverso ciò, questi servizi permettono di gestire e rinsaldare online amicizie preesistenti o di estendere la propria rete di contatti. Attualmente, i tre “social network services” più frequentati sono: Facebook, Twitter e MySpace.
5. Come funziona un Social Network? Per entrare a far parte di un social network online occorre costruire il proprio profilo personale, partendo da informazioni come il proprio indirizzo email fino ad arrivare agli interessi e alle passioni, alle esperienze di lavoro passate e relative referenze.A questo punto è possibile invitare i propri amici a far parte del proprio network, i quali a loro volta possono fare lo stesso, cosicché ci si trova ad allargare la cerchia di contatti con gli amici degli amici e così via, Diventa quindi possibile costituire delle community tematiche in base alle proprie passioni e interessi, aggregando ad esse altri utenti e stringendo contatti di amicizia o di affari.
