2. OBJECTIVES
After completion of this session learners will
be able to :
define peer sharing
explain different types of peer sharing
importance of peer sharing
advantages of peer sharing
disadvantages of peer sharing
3. Within nursing peer sharing has been used in
the classroom and clinical setting. Peer
sharing can be applied among students of
same age or students of different age groups.
Typically, a higher performing student is
paired with a lower performing student to
review critical academic or behavioural
concepts.
4. “People from similar social
groupings, who are not professional
teachers helping each other to learn
and learning themselves by
teaching.”
- KEITH AND SHIRLEY
5. TYPES OF PEER
SHARING
1. Incidental peer sharing 6. Cross age peer
sharing
2. Structured peer sharing 7. Reciprocal peer
sharing
3. One on one peer sharing 8. Same age peer sharing
4. Dyad peer sharing 9. Short term peer
sharing
5. Class wide peer sharing 10.Long term peer
sharing
7. 2. STRUCTURED PEER
SHARING
It is a type of peer
sharing implemented
with specific purposes
and for specific subjects.
8. 3. ONE ON ONE PEER
SHARING
In this, one
exclusively acts as a
tutor and other one
is a tutee.
9. 4. DYAD PEER SHARING
In this, both of
them support
each other and
both play a role
of tutor and
tutee.
10. 5. CLASS – WIDE PEER
SHARING
In this, the entire
class is divided into
two to five groups
having students of
different ability
levels. Students
then act as tutor
and tutee.
11. 6. CROSS - AGE PEER
SHARING
Older students are
paired with younger
students. The older
student serve as the
tutor and the
younger student is
the tutee.
12. 7. RECIPROCAL PEER
SHARING
Two or more students
alternate between
acting as the tutor
and tutee during
each session, with
equitable time in
each role.
13. 8. SAME – AGE PEER
SHARING
Peers having same age
are grouped together.
Students may have
similar ability levels
or a more advanced
student can be paired
with a less advanced
student.
14. 9. SHORT – TERM PEER
SHARING
In which, the
tutor tutee
relationship
exists for a
specific period of
time.
15. 10. LONG – TERM PEER
SHARING
The tutor tutee
relationship exists
for a long period
time.
19. Peer sharing is usually a relatively small
component of a wide range of teaching and
learning strategies deployed in higher
education, so the extend to which it is
realistic to expect associated gains to be
measurable, widespread and maintained.
