This document provides an overview of communication skills, including the definition, process, levels, flow, and importance of technical communication. The communication process consists of 5 steps - ideation, encoding, transmission, decoding, and response. Communication can occur at extra-personal, intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, and mass levels. Formal communication in organizations can flow downward, upward, laterally, and diagonally. Informal communication networks like the grapevine also exist. Technical communication is important for organizational success and involves both oral and written forms using technical vocabulary and graphics.
