2. Working in retail
The transferable skills I gained:
Range from skills I can use individually and in a team.
Communication skills
Management and leadership
Organization and time management
3. Communication
Communication is the skill that is most used and possibly the most
important.
Effective communication with the customer: to help them find what is
needed, clearly stating promotions and extra benefits.
Communications with different age groups- beneficial in future to
when working with patients
Communication with a team: limited number of staff in one shift so
effectively communicating between each shift
4. Management and leadership
Appointed to the role of key holder so had to learn to
organize my team and the tasks, by allocating them to each
day of the week after assessing how busy it is and the
external factors, and who is on the shift.
Having leadership also pushed me to be quicker at problem
solving. Critical thinking to solve a situation in a time limit.
5. Organization and time management
During a busy shift , I have learned to priorities certain tasks according on
their priority, and according to my ability to complete them without
impacting the customer and my service towards them.
Management of tasks also means dividing and assigning them to the
right member of staff that can complete the task in the best manner.
This relates to my course and helped during lab sessions, when me and
lab partner would identify our strength and complete the task
accordingly.
