2. Production and Distribution
Our product is created by an independent production company
we created called “Alpha Pictures”. As a producer we are to
oversee the product from the idea to it’s completion. We are in
charge of the budget, crew, scripting, scheduling and etc. We
are also responsible of anything that goes wrong.
Although as an independent company we need a suitable media
institute to fund and distribute our super-natural thriller film. A
distributor will release our film into the public in a way to make a
profit. They will be in charge in distributing it to the cinema
venues, DVD, Blu-ray etc. After production a master print is sent
to the local distributor to plan strategies in distribution and
release dates. Distributor will showcase the film to potential
exhibitors and negotiates a bilateral agreement to show the film
in cinema venues.
3. Independent Film Festivals.
As an independent film company we need funds to create the
product and a distributor although these will not be found easily.
Best way for upcoming directors and producers to get noticed by
bigger distributors are independent film festivals.
In UK there is the London Independent Film Festival, British
Independent Film Festival and also the Independent Film
Awards by British Film Institute. If our product to be featured on
one of these we could attract potential distributers who would
offer to fund and distribute our super-natural thriller film.
4. Who would potentially fund and
distribute our product?
In the UK the British Film Institute (BFI) and UK Film Council who
are part of the BFI is willing to fund upcoming directors. UK Film
Council is institute who are specialists in funding upcoming British
independent film companies. They both fund and distribute films.
They have various different funds for different types of film.
There is a fund for fiction films although that is for directors and
producers who have been nominated before and have past
producing experience but there is a fund for First-Time upcoming
independent producing companies which is something ideal for us.
Of course it is not easy to be offered the fund so our product would
have to be good enough for them. A budget under £2,000,000
pounds would be offered. The only hook is it is only for production
fund not distribution.
5. Who else could fund and why?
Blumhouse Production company created a micro-budget $15,000
Paranormal Activity that grossed $200 million world wide. They are a
company that makes supernatural horrors and thriller films. Our
product is a supernatural thriller that is also made to be low budget as
we do not use special effects or complicated in use props. They
worked with Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate.
Paramount Pictures agreed to the low budget Paranormal Activity
which is very similar to our product. Paramount could be our potential
distributor if we are also able to perform like Blumhouse Productions
did. They also distributed the other Paranormal Activity films and films
like Cloverfield or Sweeney Todd. We produced supernatural thriller
product that has potential to be distributed by Paramount as they work
with films that specify in a niche target audience as well as those films
that are aimed at families. These films with niche audience succeed in
their box office as well as those with a wider target audience.
