What is commercial radio?
• Commercial broadcasting is the broadcasting
radio programming by privately owned
corporate media, as opposed to state
sponsorship. It was united states’ first model
of radio and later it was television during the
1920s, in contrast with the public television
model in Europe during the 1930s, 1940s and
1950s which prevailed worldwide except in
the united states, until the 1980s.
Effect of relying on advertising
revenue?
Traditional print based media relies heavily upon advertisements and
classified adverts for the generation of the majority of their revenue, which
accounts for upwards of three quarters of total income. This subsidy covers
the expensive printing and distribution costs of the publication which was
estimated to be between 30-40% and 11% respectively of total operating
costs in 2006.Although online advertisements revenue have overtaken their
print counterparts recently, the vast majority of this is spent on search
engines and pay-per-click content rather than more traditional advertising on
news websites such as banners.
The disadvantages is if they run out of viewers no one would one them to
advertise their items which means they close down because they make most
of their money out of advertising.

home.

"airtime" to advertisers. Of total media expenditures, radio
accounts for 6.9%.Radio advertisements or "spots" are
available when a business or service provides valuable
consideration, usually cash, in exchange for the station airing
their spot or mentioning them on air.
