This document discusses different types of waves. A transverse wave is when a particle vibrates perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. In a longitudinal wave, the compression is where particles are crowded together, while the rarefaction is where particles are spread apart. The wavelength is the distance from compression to compression or rarefaction to rarefaction in a longitudinal wave.
