The University of Wollongong and Blackboard have collaborated to develop an exemplary course for staff that demonstrates best practice for digital learning within Moodle. In 2015, the University implemented a set of minimum expectations and good practice elements called the Digital Learning Thresholds (DLT). The DLT strategy supports the principle that all students will have access to digital learning and both staff and students have clear expectations about the use of digital learning within the curriculum. This session will be co-presented by Lynley Clark from Blackboard and Denise Spanswick from the University of Wollongong (UOW). It will discuss how Lynley and a small team of Educational Designers from UOW worked together to incorporate the DLT elements into examples of activities and resources within a Moodle site with the aim of providing a model or exemplar to develop staff’s understanding of digital learning in a way that could more easily translate to their own subject development and an exceptional learning experience for UOW students.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have gained momentum in recent years and offer a new opportunity for interaction with potential university students. While MOOCs have been seen as a disruptive force for higher education, they have provided spaces to explore innovative approaches and emerging technologies that can then be integrated into regular university course content. Designing courses that are not aligned with any accreditation requirements has
allowed the flexibility to creatively experiment and push boundaries. Using Blackboard’s Open Education platform, Charles Darwin University has developed and delivered 3 MOOCs showcasing creative approaches to otherwise traditional course content.
This presentation will showcase CDU’s processes, innovative approaches, and lessons learnt. Since 2014, Nossal High School has run a program of Digital Delivery Days where students are asked to remain at home and classes are delivered entirely via Blackboard for duration of the day. This year we have focused on the use of Collaborate Ultra for working with our students through their course areas on Blackboard. We have also been investigating solutions for encouraging classrooms to default to team-based learning activities, away from centralised AV (projectors and whiteboards) and believe Blackboard Collaborate Ultra may be able to provide us with a feasible alternative.
This presentation will report on the effectiveness of using Collaborate Ultra within our Digital Delivery setting and also on the early stages of replacing centralised AV within our classrooms.

MBS has one of the largest undergraduate intakes of any UK campus-based business school, with up to 550 new students enrolling each year. Students are expected to develop and utilise research skills throughout their degree programme, with many course units focusing on the practical applications of theories from the outset.
This session will focus on how a collaboration between academics, library staff and graduate teaching assistants resulted in the creation of a comprehensive suite of blended learning activities (focused around the students’ first assignment), which aided the transition to higher education learning for the new student intake.
Blackboard Learn played a pivotal role in the process by housing a suite of bespoke online learning resources (which were adapted from the University of Manchester Library’s Catalyst award winning blended learning programme).
The resources were designed to improve the research and referencing habits of new students within the subject area of Business and Management. Blackboard Learn also proved effective in allowing us to monitor students’ progress throughout the course unit. We will discuss how we gathered over 300 feedback responses (relating to students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of the different training elements e.g. online, face-face), together with a short presentation of these findings.
Opening Up Europe: Strategy and the Added Value of Collaboration
This document discusses potential collaborations between the Open Education Consortium (OEC) and the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) to promote openness in education. We have added the General Education University Learning Outcomes (ULOs) with their connected rubrics as well as specific program ULOs such as First Year Writing, ABET (engineering), and CAEP (education), to name a few. The simple, yet rich Digication interface allows for curation of video, Google Docs, PDFs, images, written content (which includes mathematical equations). Our usage on campus is expanding rapidly and we offer support in the form of online documentation, technical assistance via our Help Desk, and pedagogical guidance via the IDEA Shop (a department under the Center for Teaching and Learning). Our aim is two-pronged: 1) to provide a stable and secure interface for students to curate learning artifacts that will promote reflection over time and 2) to assess student learning in courses, departments, and programs.

The document describes an iterative process of developing an authentic mobile learning task to help international students develop research skills. In the task, students work in groups to create "suburb profile" blogs recommending suburbs for other international students to live in. The task was improved by adding a requirement for students to visit and collect information about their chosen suburb using the Blackboard Mobile app. This enhanced engagement and led to higher quality blog outcomes by incorporating first-hand experiences into their research. The mobile task design facilitated real-time teacher feedback and interaction between remote teacher and student groups. Future iterations could address bandwidth issues and further develop the use of literature in the task.

Using Blackboard Mobile Learn to develop research skills through authentic le...
