The Pearl Cays, a group of seven small islands, have historically been used by the indigenous communities of the Pearl Lagoon Basin for fishing, water collection, and other activities. However, in 1996 some individuals began illegally buying and selling the islands, despite laws establishing them as communal lands belonging to the indigenous communities. Armed men later prevented the traditional fishermen from accessing the Pearl Cays, interrupting the communities' traditional use of these islands. The communities are now seeking to reclaim the Pearl Cays as part of demarcating their ancestral lands, as protected by Nicaraguan law.

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

- 26. A new race is going to be held. The hare is going to compete with a deer. What do you think the hare will do this time? How will it prepare for the race this time?
- 28. So what happened? Well..., right before we got to the actual program for the day, Mr. Asdrubal Canelo involved the kids in a fun TPR activity. Great body and brain exercise!
- 29. The songs were fun and relaxing! These were meant to relax the children, release the kid‘s energy and set them nicely for Reading Time. Besides it made them see that the library is a fun place to be at. Groovying on down!
- 30. Next, something that must never be forgotten in Reading Time: Vocabulary Build-up. This got students acquainted with the words they would later find in the story that was read. Miss Rubenia Borge used movement and ellicited meaning from students so as to make the vocabulary memorable.
- 31. Now, what they‘ve all been waiting for – the story! With the children comfortably gathered round her sitting on the floor and with awesome visuals behind her, Miss Francis Aguilar read the story of the Tortoise and the Hare to the children. In order to focus student attention on the story, she used intonation to indicate character personality and feelings plus some movement and sounds that resembled the sound of people when they sleep placidly, for example.
- 32. After an interesting whole group discussion about the virtues of the tortoise as compared to the hare and what the attitude of the tortoise should be now that it has won, the students got down to business and were able demonstrate that they actually comprehended the story by responding to it in a drawing. The students were divided into groups of five or six children and drew the ammended attitude of the hare in a next week race with the deer!
