PAINT APPLICATION TOOLS DEFINITION
• A PAINTING APPLICATION TOOL IS A TOOL USED IN A PAINTING PROGRAM
WHICH IS USED TO CHANGE THE AREA OF THE IMAGE BY ADDING PAINT
STROKES OR FILLING THE AREAS WITH BEAUTIFUL COLORS.
BRUSH APPLICATION
DEFINITION OF PAINT BRUSH
• A PAINTBRUSH IS A BRUSH USED TO APPLY PAINT OR INK. A PAINTBRUSH IS
USUALLY MADE BY CLAMPING BRISTLES TO A HANDLE WITH A FERRULE. THEY
ARE AVAILABLE IN VARIOUS SIZES, SHAPES, AND MATERIALS. THICKER ONES ARE
USED FOR FILLING IN, AND THINNER ONES ARE USED FOR DETAILS.
• NATURAL BRISTLE BRUSHES, MADE OF ANIMAL HAIR, AND SYNTHETIC BRISTLE
BRUSHES, USUALLY MADE OF NYLON. AT ONE TIME, THE NATURALS WERE
CONSIDERED THE BEST, BUT TODAY THE SYNTHETICS ARE EVERY BIT AS GOOD.
BESIDES, YOU CAN’T USE A NATURAL BRISTLE BRUSH WITH WATERBASE LATEX
PAINTS BECAUSE WATER MAKES THE BRISTLES LIMP. CONSEQUENTLY, IF YOU’RE
PAINTING WITH A WATER-THINNED PAINT, YOUR BRUSH SELECTION IS ALREADY
50 PERCENT EASIER.
PAINTBRUSHES COME IN A WIDE VARIETY OF SIZES AND TYPES AND ARE NECESSARY FOR THOSE
HARD-TO-REACH SPOTS A PAINT ROLLER CAN’T REACH. HERE ARE SOME OF THE MAIN TYPES OF
PAINTBRUSHES:
1)WALL. THIS TYPE SPREADS THE MOST PAINT OVER THE MOST SURFACE. A 4-INCH-WIDE BRUSH
IS A GOOD CHOICE, THOUGH 31⁄2- AND 3-INCH WALL BRUSHES MAY BE EASIER TO USE.
2(TRIM. A 2-INCH-WIDE TRIM BRUSH IS IDEAL FOR WOODWORK AND FOR “CUTTING IN” AROUND
WINDOWS, DOORS, AND CORNERS BEFORE PAINTING WALLS WITH A ROLLER.
3)SASH. A SASH BRUSH HAS AN ANGLED BRISTLE END. AVAILABLE IN 1-, 11⁄2-, OR 2-INCH
WIDTHS, THE ANGLED SASH BRUSH MAKES CLOSE WORK EASIER – ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE
PAINTING AROUND WINDOWS. USED CAREFULLY, IT REDUCES THE NEED TO USE TAPE TO
PROTECT WINDOW PANES.
ROLLER APPLICATION
• DEFINITION
• A ROLLER OF ABSORBENT MATERIAL, MOUNTED ON A HANDLE, THAT IS ROLLED IN A TROUGH
OF PAINT AND THEN ROLLED OVER A FLAT SURFACE TO BE PAINTED
• THE PAINT ROLLER TYPICALLY CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: A “ROLLER FRAME,” AND A “ROLLER
COVER.” THE ROLLER COVER ABSORBS THE PAINT AND TRANSFERS IT TO THE PAINTED
SURFACE, THE ROLLER FRAME ATTACHES TO THE ROLLER COVER. A PAINTER HOLDS THE
ROLLER BY THE HANDLE SECTION. THE ROLLER FRAME IS REUSABLE. IT IS POSSIBLE TO CLEAN
AND REUSE A ROLLER COVER, BUT IT IS ALSO TYPICALLY DISPOSED OF AFTER USE.

ABSORBENT AND FLAT, AND ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN STRAIGHT AND EVEN
STROKES. YOU MAY NOTICE USING OTHER TYPES OF ROLLERS THAT THEY TEND TO
SPLATTER PAINT AS THEY ROLL OVER A SURFACE.
• A PAD ROLLER LIES COMPLETELY FLAT WHICH ELIMINATES ANY OPPORTUNITY FOR
SPLATTERING OR DRIPPING. THE FLAT DESIGN ALSO MAKES THE PAD ROLLER EASIER
TO HOLD AND CARRY PAINT. ANY TIME YOU INTEND TO PAINT A SURFACE TWO OR
MORE COLORS, THIS IS THE ROLLER FOR YOU.
• TYPE #3: TEXTURED PAINT ROLLERS

• TEXTURED ROLLERS ARE MEANT TO HELP TRANSFER PAINT ONTO A SURFACE
WITH TEXTURE. WITH SPECIAL FOAM COVERS COMPLETE WITH PATTERNS
ETCHED INTO THEM, THIS IS THE QUICKEST AND MOST ACCURATE WAY TO
APPLY PAINT IN A WAY THAT CREATES AN ARTIFICIAL FINISH. THEY MAKE
TEXTURED ROLLERS SIMULATING WOOD GRAIN, BRICK, STONE, TILE, AND
SIMILAR INTERIOR DESIGN PATTERNS. TEXTURED ROLLERS ARE MEANT FOR
LARGE SURFACES, SUCH AS WALLS AND CEILINGS.
SPRAY PAINT APPLICATION
• DEFINITION
• SPRAY PAINTING IS A PAINTING TECHNIQUE IN WHICH A DEVICE SPRAYS
COATING MATERIAL (PAINT, INK, VARNISH, ETC.) THROUGH THE AIR ONTO A
SURFACE. THE MOST COMMON TYPES EMPLOY COMPRESSED GAS—USUALLY
AIR—TO ATOMIZE AND DIRECT THE PAINT PARTICLES.
ROBOTIC SPRAY APPLICATION
• PAINTING ROBOTS APPLY COATINGS WITH GREAT PRECISION AND EVENNESS.
THEY ARE USUALLY EMPLOYED IN A MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT. IN
PARTICULAR, THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY HAS USED PAINTING ROBOTS FOR
MANY YEARS. OVER THE LAST DECADE, THE SOPHISTICATION OF PAINTING
ROBOTS HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED. AND MORE APPLICATIONS HAVE
BECOME POSSIBLE.

AIRLESS SPRAY APPLICATION
• AIRLESS SPRAY IS A PAINTING TECHNIQUE WHICH SIMPLIFIES THE PROCESS OF
PAINTING. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY USING AN AIRLESS SPRAYER THAT PUMPS THE
PAINT UNDER VERY HIGH PRESSURE, AROUND 3000 PSI, VIA A SPECIALIZED HOSE
INTO A SMALL HOLE IN THE NOZZLE OF THE SPRAYER.

• AIRLESS SPRAYING IS OFTEN PREFERRED BECAUSE THE END RESULT IS A SMOOTH
AND EVEN FINISH, WHICH CAN WITHSTAND WEAR AND TEAR AS WELL AS
HARMFUL CORROSION EFFECTS
PAINT IS DELIVERED TO THE SPRAY GUN AT THIS PRESSURE THROUGH A SINGLE HOSE WITHIN
THE GUN. A SINGLE PAINT STREAM IS DIVIDED INTO SEPARATE STREAMS, WHICH ARE FORCED
THROUGH A SMALL ORIFICE RESULTING IN ATOMIZATION OF PAINT WITHOUT THE USE OF AIR.
THIS RESULTS IN MORE RAPID COVERAGE WITH LESS OVER SPRAY.
AIRLESS SPRAY USUALLY IS FASTER, CLEANER, MORE ECONOMICAL AND EASIER TO USE THAN
CONVENTIONAL AIR SPRAY.
AIRLESS SPRAY EQUIPMENT IS MOUNTED ON WHEELS, AND PAINT IS ASPIRATED IN A HOSE THAT
SUCKS PAINT FROM ANY CONTAINER, INCLUDING DRUMS. THE UNIT SHALL HAVE INBUILT
AGITATOR THAT KEEP THE PAINT UNIFORMLY MIXED DURING THE SPRAYING. THE UNIT SHALL
CONSIST OF INBUILT STRAINER. USUALLY VERY SMALL QUANTITIES OF THINNING ARE REQUIRED
BEFORE SPRAY. IN CASE OF HIGH BUILD EPOXY COATING (TWO PACK). 30:1 PUMP RATIO AND
0.020-0.023” TIP SIZE WILL PROVIDE A GOOD SPRAY PATTERN. IDEALLY FLUID HOSES SHOULD
NOT BE LESS THAN 3/8” ID AND NOT LONGER THAN 50 FT TO OBTAIN OPTIMUM RESULTS. IN
CASE OF GUN CHOKING, DE-CHOKING STEPS SHALL BE FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY.

  • 3. PAINT APPLICATION TOOLS DEFINITION • A PAINTING APPLICATION TOOL IS A TOOL USED IN A PAINTING PROGRAM WHICH IS USED TO CHANGE THE AREA OF THE IMAGE BY ADDING PAINT STROKES OR FILLING THE AREAS WITH BEAUTIFUL COLORS.
  • 4. BRUSH APPLICATION DEFINITION OF PAINT BRUSH • A PAINTBRUSH IS A BRUSH USED TO APPLY PAINT OR INK. A PAINTBRUSH IS USUALLY MADE BY CLAMPING BRISTLES TO A HANDLE WITH A FERRULE. THEY ARE AVAILABLE IN VARIOUS SIZES, SHAPES, AND MATERIALS. THICKER ONES ARE USED FOR FILLING IN, AND THINNER ONES ARE USED FOR DETAILS.

ROLLER APPLICATION • DEFINITION • A ROLLER OF ABSORBENT MATERIAL, MOUNTED ON A HANDLE, THAT IS ROLLED IN A TROUGH OF PAINT AND THEN ROLLED OVER A FLAT SURFACE TO BE PAINTED • THE PAINT ROLLER TYPICALLY CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: A “ROLLER FRAME,” AND A “ROLLER COVER.” THE ROLLER COVER ABSORBS THE PAINT AND TRANSFERS IT TO THE PAINTED SURFACE, THE ROLLER FRAME ATTACHES TO THE ROLLER COVER. A PAINTER HOLDS THE ROLLER BY THE HANDLE SECTION. THE ROLLER FRAME IS REUSABLE. IT IS POSSIBLE TO CLEAN AND REUSE A ROLLER COVER, BUT IT IS ALSO TYPICALLY DISPOSED OF AFTER USE.

YOU MAY NOTICE USING OTHER TYPES OF ROLLERS THAT THEY TEND TO SPLATTER PAINT AS THEY ROLL OVER A SURFACE. • A PAD ROLLER LIES COMPLETELY FLAT WHICH ELIMINATES ANY OPPORTUNITY FOR SPLATTERING OR DRIPPING. THE FLAT DESIGN ALSO MAKES THE PAD ROLLER EASIER TO HOLD AND CARRY PAINT. ANY TIME YOU INTEND TO PAINT A SURFACE TWO OR MORE COLORS, THIS IS THE ROLLER FOR YOU.
  • 11. • TYPE #3: TEXTURED PAINT ROLLERS • • TEXTURED ROLLERS ARE MEANT TO HELP TRANSFER PAINT ONTO A SURFACE WITH TEXTURE. WITH SPECIAL FOAM COVERS COMPLETE WITH PATTERNS ETCHED INTO THEM, THIS IS THE QUICKEST AND MOST ACCURATE WAY TO APPLY PAINT IN A WAY THAT CREATES AN ARTIFICIAL FINISH. THEY MAKE TEXTURED ROLLERS SIMULATING WOOD GRAIN, BRICK, STONE, TILE, AND SIMILAR INTERIOR DESIGN PATTERNS. TEXTURED ROLLERS ARE MEANT FOR LARGE SURFACES, SUCH AS WALLS AND CEILINGS.

  • 16. AIRLESS SPRAY APPLICATION • AIRLESS SPRAY IS A PAINTING TECHNIQUE WHICH SIMPLIFIES THE PROCESS OF PAINTING. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY USING AN AIRLESS SPRAYER THAT PUMPS THE PAINT UNDER VERY HIGH PRESSURE, AROUND 3000 PSI, VIA A SPECIALIZED HOSE INTO A SMALL HOLE IN THE NOZZLE OF THE SPRAYER. • • AIRLESS SPRAYING IS OFTEN PREFERRED BECAUSE THE END RESULT IS A SMOOTH AND EVEN FINISH, WHICH CAN WITHSTAND WEAR AND TEAR AS WELL AS HARMFUL CORROSION EFFECTS
  • 17. PAINT IS DELIVERED TO THE SPRAY GUN AT THIS PRESSURE THROUGH A SINGLE HOSE WITHIN THE GUN. A SINGLE PAINT STREAM IS DIVIDED INTO SEPARATE STREAMS, WHICH ARE FORCED THROUGH A SMALL ORIFICE RESULTING IN ATOMIZATION OF PAINT WITHOUT THE USE OF AIR. THIS RESULTS IN MORE RAPID COVERAGE WITH LESS OVER SPRAY. AIRLESS SPRAY USUALLY IS FASTER, CLEANER, MORE ECONOMICAL AND EASIER TO USE THAN CONVENTIONAL AIR SPRAY. AIRLESS SPRAY EQUIPMENT IS MOUNTED ON WHEELS, AND PAINT IS ASPIRATED IN A HOSE THAT SUCKS PAINT FROM ANY CONTAINER, INCLUDING DRUMS. THE UNIT SHALL HAVE INBUILT AGITATOR THAT KEEP THE PAINT UNIFORMLY MIXED DURING THE SPRAYING. THE UNIT SHALL CONSIST OF INBUILT STRAINER. USUALLY VERY SMALL QUANTITIES OF THINNING ARE REQUIRED BEFORE SPRAY. IN CASE OF HIGH BUILD EPOXY COATING (TWO PACK). 30:1 PUMP RATIO AND 0.020-0.023” TIP SIZE WILL PROVIDE A GOOD SPRAY PATTERN. IDEALLY FLUID HOSES SHOULD NOT BE LESS THAN 3/8” ID AND NOT LONGER THAN 50 FT TO OBTAIN OPTIMUM RESULTS. IN CASE OF GUN CHOKING, DE-CHOKING STEPS SHALL BE FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY.
