2. WHAT IS NUCLEOTIDE?
• NUCLEOTIDE = NUCLEOSIDE +
PHOSPHATE
• NUCLEOSIDE = SUGAR + N.B.
• sugar-pentose sugar either ribose sugar(in
RNA) & deoxyribose sugar(in DNA)
• N.B.=Nitrogenous Base may be
Purine(Adenine & Guanine) &
Pyrimidine( Cytosine, Thymine & Uracil)

3. MAINLY TWO MAJOR IMP. ROLE OF
NUCLEOTIDES ARE-
1- AFTER POLYMERISATION-it
form either DNA OR RNA.
2- ACT AS PRECURSOR FOR-
• energy currency( like ATP )
• coenzyme(like NAD+,NADP+,FAD,Co-A)
• secondary messenger( cAMP, cGMP)
• regulatory molecule( like ppGpp)
