A library consortium is an association of two or more libraries that come together to achieve common goals like sharing resources and reducing costs. It allows libraries to pool their resources and provide access to more materials than any single library could on its own. The emergence of digital information and the internet led libraries to form consortia to cope with the increasing amount of information and declining budgets. Consortia allow libraries to expand collections and services for users while reducing costs through collaborative purchasing agreements.
