• Computer software web search engine ‘Google’ have been acquiring on average more than

• Google have acquired over 170 companies, with its largest acquisition being the purchase of
Motorola Mobility a mobile device manufacturing company, for a sum of $12.5 billion.
• However, on January 29 2014, Google announced it was selling it’s Motorola Mobility unit to
China-based Lenovo, for $2.91bn. The company did keep the extensive patent collection
which is used to develop Android products, considered the most valuable part of the deal.
• Other companies they own includes Green Throttle Games which developed a Bluetooth
gaming controller for Android. In May 2014 Google announced the purchase of Quest Visual.
• Google bought Social Media giants YouTube back in October 9th 2006.

used other dates for its official birthday . A dispute with rival search engine Yahoo!
Search in 2005 has been suggested as the cause.
• In February 2003, Google acquired Pyra Labs, who owns Blogger, a web log hosting
website. The acquisition secured the company’s competitive ability to use
information gleaned from blog postings to improve the speed and relevance of
articles contained in a companion product to the search engine Google News.
