Introduction • Page andBrin originally nicknamed their new search engine "BackRub", because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site. • Eventually, they changed the name to Google, originating from a misspelling of the word "googol“. • Google’s headquarters is located in Mountain View, California, nicknamed Googeplex.

Google Search • GoogleSearch is a web search engine owned by Google Inc. • Google Search is the most-used search engine on the World Wide Web. • Major competitors of Google are Baidu and Soso.com in China; Naver.com and Daum Communications in South Korea; Yandex in Russia; Seznam.cz in Czech Republic; Yahoo! in Japan, Taiwan and the United States, and Bing.

Google Docs • GoogleDocs is a freeware web-based office suite offered by Google. • Google Docs originated from two separate products, Writely and Google Spreadsheets. • It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. • It can be accessed from the Website, docs.google.com.

Android • Android isa Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. • Initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and later bought in 2005. • Android is open source and Google releases the code under the Apache License.
