GRIHA – GREEN RATING FOR INTEGRATED HABITAT ASSESSMENT
• GRIHA is developed by TERI (The energy and resources Institute) for the ministry of new and Renewable energy.
This is the indigenous national rating system developed by the ministry to cover the climatic variations, architectural
practices, existing practices of construction and attempting to revive the passive architecture.
• GRIHA rating system takes into account the provisions of the National Building Codes 2005 , The energy
conservation Building Code 2007 announced by BEE and other IS codes
• The rating system based on accepted energy and environmental principles, seeks to strike a balance between the
established practices and emerging concepts, both national and international .
• GRIHA MEANING:GRIHA is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Abode’. GRIHA promotes passive techniques to reduce
energy cost while keeping the optimum thermal comfort inside the build environment.

Presentation given at the 2014 BuildingChicago - Greening the Heartland conference by Judi Cooper, Shanna Olson, Carey Nagle, and Scott Bowman. Using the Iowa Utility Board / Office of Consumer Advocate as a case study, the group demonstrates the power of the integrated design process as a tool to reach extremely high performance (and extremely low energy use) in buildings.
Code Dread: Keeping up with ASHRAE and LEEDScott Bowman
Design firms will be in the best position to meet their clients’ needs by understanding and preparing for ASHRAE 90.1-2010 and LEED v4, both of which have evolved from their earlier versions and will have major impacts on buildings in the very near future.
This presentation will illustrate the effect of these changes by applying the new standards to an existing LEED Silver-certified project constructed in 2008 by KJWW Engineering Consultants using ASHRAE 90.1-2004.
First, a new baseline using the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 standard will be applied to the project, which is the requirement under LEED v2009. Next, a baseline for the project using ASHRAE 90.1-2010 will be applied to the project, which represents the requirements under LEED v4. Both comparisons will show the decrease in energy savings, points awarded, and strategies and cost required to bring the project back to the original energy savings and the LEED certification it might attain.
The project’s real-life, existing energy performance will be presented as an overlay to all of the comparisons.

Maastricht University’s Green Building Adoption Index is the first study to quantify the relevance of green building practices in the commercial real estate market. Based on EPA Energy Star and USGBC LEED statistical data from 2005 through 2013 the study examines more than 34,000 buildings totaling more than 3.5 billion square feet in the top 30 U.S. markets. The resulting evidence shows that green has become mainstream in the majority of U.S. cities.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
