This document discusses the formation and activities of committees under the PATA Laos organization. It summarizes 3 initiatives proposed by the Green Committee: 1) A plastic bag and bottle recycling project in Laos led by Stray Asia and PATA Laos, 2) a "Bring Your Own Bag/Bottle" campaign, and 3) a project to promote green practices and properties. It also outlines a proposed Colonial Heritage in Laos project that would create an interactive map of colonial-era architecture in Laos to promote tourism. Next steps for this project include listing buildings, creating a database, and determining how to present the information.
The Severn Estuary Forum is a key annual event in its eighth year and hosted by the Severn Estuary Partnership: an independent, estuary-wide initiative, involving all those interested in the management of the estuary, from planners to port authorities, fishermen to farmers.
This year’s Forum was opened by the Lord Mayor of Gloucester and supported by CIWEM. It focussed on a number of diverse topics, including the upper estuary; renewable energy possibilities; a review of the Severn Estuary Flood Risk Management Strategy; an overview of the operations and maintenance of the Severn River Crossings; Local Enterprise Partnerships; The Bristol Deep Sea Container Terminal; proposals for a Severnside Airport and Fisheries amongst others.
These engaging and exciting events are intended for all interested in learning about the latest research and policy developments dealing with the Severn Estuary and its future, and always guarantee a lively and informative day of presentations and talks. They offer a unique opportunity to learn from others, share ideas and participate in the management of the Severn Estuary.

6. Example of Stray - Stray Asia and PATA Laos - Plastic Bag Recycling Project
Problem Identified
Laos has a major problem with plastic bags and bottles being thrown onto the ground, and often ultimately ending up in the
rivers. Recycling is available, but it is on a small scale, and only available in major centres such as Vientiane.Stray is
proposing to be the official transport provider to bring plastic from rural Laos, for recycling in Vientiane.
An excellent video which summarizes the fact and figures can be watched here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWrxkdh3p7k&feature=player_embedded
To raise funds and awareness, we propose to have re-usable bags made, at a cost of 20,000 LAK each, and sold to Stray
customers for 25,000 LAK. The 5,000 LAK will be collected by Stray, and used to develop the project further, and cover
admin and marketing costs in promoting the project.
