- 3. What is bullying? is any form of psychological abuse, verbal or physical occurred between school repeatedly over a given time. Statistically, the dominant type of violence is the emotional and mostly occurs in the classroom and the school yard. The protagonists of cases of bullying are often children in the process of entry into adolescence (12-14 years), with a slightly higher percentage of girls in the profile of victims.
- 4. Causes of Bullying: The aggressor: psychological characteristics and family environment Although the school bully does not have to suffer any mental illness or severe personality disorder, usually presents some kind of psychopathology. Fundamentally, lack of empathy and presents some kind of cognitive distortion. Lack of empathy explains their inability to empathize with the bullied and being insensitive to the suffering of this.
- 5. The school environment It may be the case that the absence from class (or, in general, at school) in a suitable climate of coexistence may favor the occurrence of bullying. The responsibility for this figure ranges from a few teachers who have not received specific training in issues of conflict mediation in school situations, and lower profile of authority within the society. TV The implicit message of certain television programs frequently consumed teen exposing a project model that seeks vital aspiration to everything without giving up anything to get it, as long as that does not mean big effort or work, is another risk factor for certain individuals.
- 6. Prevention It is estimated that the simultaneous intervention on individual, family and cultural, is the only way of preventing bullying. The prevention can be done at different levels. A primary prevention would be the responsibility of the parents (commitment to a democratic and non-authoritarian education) in society at large and the media (in the form of self-regulation for certain content). Secondary prevention would be the concrete measures on the population at risk, that is, adolescents (primarily promoting a change of mind regarding the need to report cases of bullying but do not become victims of them), and population directly linked to this, teachers (in the form of skills training appropriate for the prevention and conflict resolution school). Finally, tertiary prevention measures would help the protagonists of cases of bullying.
