This document summarizes a method called MiRaGE that uses gene expression changes to infer which microRNAs (miRNAs) are critical for cell senescence. MiRaGE analyzes how well expression changes in predicted target genes match expression changes expected if a given miRNA is differentially expressed. It identifies 10 downregulated and 32 upregulated miRNAs as candidates for playing an important role in inducing cell senescence based on analysis of gene expression data from two cell lines. The method significantly reduces the number of miRNAs thought to contribute to senescence compared to previous studies.
