2. What have I learnt during this
Exercise?
Out of all the things taught during this, what I learnt
the most was the continuity editing techniques. I
learnt about the 180 rule, and once when watching a
film, specifically Mr. Bean’s Holiday, I managed to
point out when the rule was broken! I had never
heard of continuity editing before being taught the
techniques. Whilst I’ve always had a care for
consistency, I never knew of these ways to edit.
Therefore this shows that I’ve been able to
understand about the continuity editing.

3. What skills have I developed?
The only thing I knew that was developed was my
editing skills with Premiere. I managed to create a sound
bridge by cropping the sound and videos and locking
certain layers. Therefore there was a video with sound
not going throughout, making space for sound from the
previous video to continue. If you were to watch my
video, you would be able to notice this when Jordan says
he was expecting someone else that without the sound
jumping the camera cuts to Josephine. This has helped
to make my video more professional and I would love to
do soundbridges like this again.

4. What feedback have I received?
It has been said that the camera angles and editing skills
have paid off quite well. One of my friends told me that I
made good use of a wide variety of camera angles and
the quality of the editing was done very well. My friend
told me that the camera was always well positioned so
what happened on screen went very well. They also said
that the cropping of the videos was done to great timing,
making the whole thing look fantastic. This feedback has
shown me that the camera angles and editing were a
definate strength in this prelim. However nothing was
said about improvements, not to say that nothing needs
improving though!

5. How would I improve my preliminary task?
To improve on this prelim, I would probably try to
master the ‘white balance’ better. In various scenes
during the prelim, the colours are different. A clip
was cut out of the final piece for being so much
darker than the rest of the footage! Apparently the
white balance was something you would do with the
cameras and not the editing software, so it wasn’t
anything I really mastered or learnt. Therefore next
time I shall try to learn the white balance technique.
