Prefab homes have been used for decades as a cost-effective way to construct affordable housing. Prefab homes are largely constructed off-site, allowing foundations and deconstruction to occur simultaneously with construction, reducing construction time to as little as three months. While some studies have found prefab homes can be cheaper than conventional stick-built homes and others have found they are not, prefab construction generally results in shorter build times, lower labor costs, less waste, and potential savings from volume discounts.
