This document provides details about Prambanan Temple in Indonesia. It was built in the 9th century by King Balitung but was damaged by an earthquake in 1006. The temple was abandoned and later rediscovered in 1733. Prambanan Temple has three levels and originally had over 200 smaller temples, though many were destroyed in the earthquake. The temple is dedicated to Hindu gods like Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Ganesh and more. Statues of the gods and reliefs depicting religious stories remain at the site today.

2. This is Prambanan temple. This temple is hinduist temple was built 856 (eight hundred
fifty six) after chrise or ninth century. Built by Balitung king from Sanjaya dynasty, and in
1006 (one thousand and six), there are earthquake from Mount Berapi eruption that so
strong, so all of the temple/building is collapse. We don’t know exactly the form of
temple and condition of temple after Berapi volcano. Everybody forgot this build, and the
temple abandone this temple found again in one thousand seven hundred thirty three by
Dutchman, his name C.A. LONS,
To differenciate the original stone and new stone, we gives sign like nail from tin and
then the original stone without cement

3. This temple divided of three level. The first level has size 390 times 390 m.
Long time ago, there was a wall around the temple, but because the
earthquake in 1006, all building is broken. The local people around this temple
took the stone to build their houses, so the first level nothing

4. This second level has size 222 times 222 m. In this temple has 224 small
temple, namely Perwara temple, but because the earthquake in 1006, all
of the building broken. There are three temple already renovated. This
temple dedicated for hindu Priest or holy man or Brahman,

6. This third level has size 110 times 110 m. There are sixteen temple, eight small
temple, namely Kelir and Pathok and eight big temple. Kelir located infront of
entrance and Pathok located in every corner.

7. Brahma is creator God.
Brahma has four head and
has four hand. He brings the

Infront of Brahma temple is
Swan, Swan as the

God, but his statue is lost

8. This statue is Siwa Maha
Dewa or Highest God. Siwa
standing Lotus flower. Siwa
has four hand. Two hand in
the back to destroyed
something bad, and two hand
for meditation position to
repairing. Siwa has three
eyes. The third eyes in
forehead.
This statue is original, but long
time ago ever broken because
earthquake. On the top of
Siwa temple is collapse, so
Siwa statue broken. Head,
body, hand and foot ever
broken.

9. This highest teacher or we
called Agastya. He is a
teacher or Brahmana or
Priest.
His face look like chinese
Mongolian. The body is
short, big stomach and long
beard. He brings the water
of science and education
and hold on waterjar.

10. Ganesha is Siwa’s child.
Ganesha is the God of
science and War has four
hand and three eyes like
Siwa, hold the water of
science and drink it. So the
stomach is big.
The symbol of cleverness,
Hinduist believe if we touch
his trunk three times, and
then patch to our head, we
will be clever, his trunk very
black because often
touched.

11. The statue number four,
namely Durga, Siwa’s wife,
has eight hand, stand on bull,
namely Andini and kill giant,
namely Asyura pulled his
head, but in the other hand
hold weapon.
The local people believe if the
girls come here, touch her
face three times and then
patched to our face, we will be
more beautiful.

12. This is Wisnu temple, Wisnu
is protector God. Wisnu
stand on lotus flower, He
brings Gada, Sangka, Cakra
and Padma. In the wall of
Wisnu temple, there are
Kresnayana story that tells
about the life of Krisna.
Infront of Wisnu temple,
there are one more statue,
namely eagle temple. Eagle
is the transportation of Wisnu
God, but the statue lost

13. This is Apit temple.
Located between eight
Big temple and Holy
Animal temple

14. Nandi is holy bull, but the
horn lost one because
earthquake in 1006, and
the roof of temple is fall
down, so the statue is
broken.
Accrording to Hinduism,
Bull is holy animal, so
Hinduist can’t eat the beaf
of bull, like : India and Bali.

15. Surya is Sun God.
Surya stand on the
carage that pulled by
seven horses. Seven
horses is symbol of 7
days for a week.

16. Chandra is Moon God.
Chandra stand on the
carage that pulled by ten
horses. Ten horses is
symbol of 10 month in
Hinduism.

17. In Prambanan temple you
can look like stupa, this is
not stupa, namely Ratna.
Ratna is lotus flower or
symbol of purity.

18. There are two birds,
namely Kinara and
Kinari, their head is
human and their body
is bird.
Kinara is male and
Kinari as symbol of
angel. Between this
bird, there are
Kalpataru tree or
symbol of life tree

19. Every corner of temple,
there are decoration, like :
Giant head namely
Jaladuara.

20. Around of Siwa temple,
you can look motif,
namely Prambanan
motif.
The motif consist of lion
statue in the middle as
strength symbol,

21. In the top of
entrance of
temple has
decoration of
giant head,
namely Kala as
symbol of
entrance guard
of temple to
refuse evil spirit.
