2. We have interviewed our mentor teacher to find out the way he uses to asses his
students, and he told us that the frequency in which students are assessed depends on
the grade they are. In the case of first grade, they are not tested in the traditional way
because they are very young and they are learning to write, but they are tested through
games where the teacher can see their performance. If they do well, it means they have
learned but if they fail, they give the students extra activities. David is in charge of the
test design, and he does not evaluate or grade them with numbers , for example from 1 to
10, but he uses words such as “Excellent, keep trying, very good” depending on how well
they perform. Finally, if students happen to fail, the teacher reinforces the concepts by
reviewing the activities they did in class.
David bases on the Naps to do class planning. He chooses different materials to make
booklets and most of his views are influenced and directly connected to Wilga Rivers
concept of Eclecticism. He uses different approaches according to the class he wants to
prepare.
3. Personally, we prefer being tested using continuous assessment rather than an “all or
nothing” test due to the fact that if we are tested only in one instance, we do not have the
MorenoAna. MartinezPaula. Practice II 2018
opportunity to show the teachers that we have acquired knowledge. On the contrary, by
using continuous assessment, it is possible indeed to show the progress we are making
during the course, and our final grade does not depend only on one exam.

We are going to analize an end of term 2nd grade test. It is based mainly on a course book
called Big English 1 and 2.
It consists of seven activities in which different skills are tested. For example: listening,
reading, writing. These skills are tested trough tasks where students have to match, write
sentences or words according to what they see, circle the right option, and aswer
questions. The students are tested according to vocabulary, prepositions, grammar, action
verbs-ing, etc.
3. Our opinion as regards testing young learners is that there should be a balance between
testing in its literal meaning, and at the same time the way in which they perform in class.
Testing young learners does not mean evaluate them in the traditional way since we can
assess themcontinuously by paying attention to each of the student during class time not
only individually, but also how they can work within groups.
By monitoring students in a formal way, teachers can make appropriate decisions
concerning modifications to teaching procedures and learning activities. According to
Hasselgren (2000) … “in assessing young learners, one has to remember that they have a
particular need and capacity for play, fantasy, and fun; they have a relatively short
MorenoAna. MartinezPaula. Practice II 2018
attention span; and they are at stage when daring to use their language is vita, and any
sense of failure” could be particulary detrimental”.

It consists of seven activities in which different skills are tested. For example: listening, reading, writing. These skills are tested trough tasks where students have to match, write sentences or words according to what they see, circle the right option, and aswer questions. The students are tested according to vocabulary, prepositions, grammar, action verbs-ing, etc. 3. Our opinion as regards testing young learners is that there should be a balance between testing in its literal meaning, and at the same time the way in which they perform in class.
