Instructions for Students
Assessment Task:
In the workshop you will be undertaking a practical assessment.
You will be required to go through piles of timber and sheeting and do the following:
 Collect tools and equipment from store and check they are in working order
 Sort the timber and sheets in sizes and materials
 De-nail if required and trim to given sizes
 Stack timber on a pallet and strap and wrap
 Stack sheets on a pallet and strap and wrap
 Get the storeman to collect your pallet using the forklift
Task 1
1. Collect tools and equipment to undertake the task, including wheelbarrows, hammers, pinch
bars, tin snips and pallets and check they are in safe working order. Report to the supervisor if
the any of the tools or equipment is not in working order.
Sort timber into similar lengths and proportions and remove all nails and trim. Stack timber of
similar proportion onto an Australian standard pallet, this must be a minimum 0.5 cubic
meters. Once safely stacked the load is to be secured ready to be moved by a forklift

2. Sort sheets into similar lengths and proportions. Stack variety of sheets that are different
shapes and sizes onto a pallet, this must be a minimum load of 0.1 cubic meters. Once safely
stacked the load is to be secured ready to be moved by a forklift
You are required to:
 Use correct PPE
 Use correct lifting and handling techniques
 Communicate with your team
 Sort, stack and secure materials safely on a pallet
 Have the pallet moved by mechanical means
You must ensure all PPE is worn correctly throughout the entire assessment. If you are not found to
be working safely at any time you assessment will be stopped
Time allowed:
 3 hour

each student.
Materials you may need: Full PPE, and a devise to access eLearn
Information for students: You may have two (2) attempts for this assessment.
 If your first attempt is not successful, your teacher will discuss your results with you and will
arrange a second attempt.
 If your second attempt is not successful, you will be required to re-enrol in this unit.
Only one re-assessment attempt will be granted for each assessment item.
