Violence directed against a person because of
their gender. Both women and men experience
this, but the majority of victims are women and
girls.
Gender-based Violence
GBV and Violence Against Women (VAW) are
often used interchangeably.
GBV undermines the health, dignity, security and
autonomy of its victims.
Many forms for GBV/VAW are rooted in power
inequalities between men and women.
1. Overt physical abuse
2. Psychological abuse
3. Deprivation of resources needed for physical
and psychological well-being
4. Treatment of women as commodities

There are different elements of sexual consent:
• The answer must be “Yes”
• Some people cannot consent (e.g. drunk, has
been drugged, unconscious, minors, suffering
from mental disabilities)
• Prior involvement does not count
• You must know if you have consent
Consent is not valid if…
