Jane Austen s Emma
Emma Woodhouse: Awake or Dreaming?
A dream. A world where ideas run wild and imagination is the primary mode of thought. Reality is a
faraway distance. Eventually, the dream comes to an end as reality creeps into sleep and the fantasy
finishes. The story of Jane Austen s Emma is one of a similar account. Emma Woodhouse, the main
character, has an active imagination that causes her to loose sight of reality like getting lost in
dreaming. Her imagination and disposition to think a little too well of herself causes Emma to be
emotionally arrogant and skews her perception of other characters (Austen, 1). Throughout the novel,
Emma struggles to develop emotionally because her dream derived visions of those around her and
her obsession with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She even goes so far as keeping Harriet from marrying Mr. Martin, who both truly loves her and is
closer to her in social status. While it is ultimately Harriet s choice to decline Mr. Martin, Emma uses
her popularity to influence the decision. [T]hough Emma continued to protest against any assistance
being wanted [from Harriet], it was in fact given in the formation of every sentence (34). Caught up in
her self appointed role as cupid, Emma ignores the possibility that Harriet and Mr. Martin could ever
live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet s rejection to Mr. Martin, Knightley suspects Emma s
attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns Emma about the unlikelihood of
Mr. Elton reducing himself to Harriet s inferior position through marriage. While his warning causes
Emma to momentarily doubt herself, she quickly erases these thoughts with a satisfaction which
settled her with her own mind, and convinced her... she had done nothing which woman s friendship
and woman s feelings would not justify (43). Evidently, Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley
s rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more amusing ideas. She remains confident in her own
imaginative schemes, letting that govern her conduct. As the novel progresses and Mr. Elton reveals
Emma as the true object of his affection, Emma s prediction and meddling proves to be a failure. In
reflecting on her behavior, Emma notes,

A Look Into The Dachau Concentration Camp
Libby Baert HIST B323 28274 April 20th, 2015 RA The First: A Look into the Dachau Concentration
Camp In March of 1933, the Nazis opened the gates to what would be the beginning of a living for
hell for over 180,000 people and the beginning of the end for over 28,000 of those people ( Dachau ,
2014). Gates marked with the words Arbeit macht Frei , or work makes freedom or work liberates , led
to Dachau, the first concentration camp instated during the Holocaust. Although there is much known
about Dachau and concentration camps in general, there is still some intrigue surrounding the first
concentration camp. This paper aims to focus on and look Dachau s purpose, it s inhabitants, and it s
happenings and the legacy it has left behind. On February 27th of 1933, the Reichstag, the German
parliament building, was burned completely down. To this day, nobody really knows who set the
building on fire. Hitler took the arson as an opportunity to put blame on the Communists, but
Communists believed that Hitler s own party started the fire so that they could sabotage the
Communists. Even some non Nazi Germans thought that Hitler was behind it, but there was nothing
they could do about it. If they spoke out there was a risk that they would be accused of being
Communist sympathizers (Bergen, 2003). Hitler s answer to this atrocity was to target the
Communists, and soon Dachau was opened. Dachau was the very first concentration camp instated by
the Nazi party. Located in a small

Essay on The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty
The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty
Yang Yu
History 135: Imperial Chinese History
Professor: Robert J. Culp
Paper I
March 4th, 2011
The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty As the dominant philosophical school for around
two thousand years in Chinese imperial history, Confucianism is always regarded as the most
representative ideology of China, associated with numerous books, poems, artworks and stories that
glorify Confucianism s permeation into every corner of Chinese society. However, before Han Wudi,
Confucianism was only one of those competing philosophical schools founded in Spring and Autumn
period. During the Warring States period and Qin dynasty, Legalism took place of all other
philosophical schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is always easy to start the process of centralization but difficult to maintain the state of
centralization. Faced with this knotty problem, Wudi adopted Confucianism, which underlined the
moral basis of superior subordinate relations, appreciating that in the long run the ruler would achieve
his goals more easily and economically when his subordinates viewed their relationship with the ruler
in moral terms of loyalty and responsibility (65). In fact, Han s Confucianism is not the same as the
Confucianism during the period of the Spring and Autumn or Warring States. It is a special status of
Confucianism. As Ebrey writes in his book, Han Confucianism itself was eclectic, fortifying itself
with precepts and philosophical concerns drawn from what had been competing philosophical schools
in the pre Qin period (77). Different from the traditional Confucianism, Han s Confucianism
assimilated thoughts from Legalism, Daoism and other schools, such as Moism s thought of universal
love (兼爱) and yin and yang school s thought of five phases (阴阳五行论). Han Confucians sought
ways to comprehend the world around them as a self generating and self sustaining organism
governed by cyclical yet never replicating flows of yin and yang and the five phases (fire, water, earth,
metal, and wood) (78). Han Confucians thought that if one of these phases was disturbed, the whole
system would

The Right Motion Designer For Your Video Essay
How to Find the Right Motion Designer for Your Video
Hiring a designer for your video can be a nerve wracking endeavour especially if you re from a
completely different field and don t know what things to pay attention to. So we ve collected some
useful tips for you to help you find the perfect motion graphic designer to make all your video dreams
come true.
How and where to find a motion designer or video production company
Word of mouth
Ask your colleagues, friends, acquaintances or your mum. Who do they work with or whom have they
used in the past? If you re lucky, you ll get several recommendations. And the best is, since they have
worked with the designer in the past, they ll be able to give you a first hand account of their
experience with the designer in question.
Check out pages and designs you like
Are there any videos that you like because they re smart and well designed? They grab your attention,
convey a clear message and are just stunning works of art? Then find out who made them. Often you
will find the name of the designer or the studio in the credits, otherwise just email the company to find
out. If you like the style and require something similar, that person might be a good fit. And even if it
doesn t work out they might recommend someone else to you.
Post a job ad
Let them come to you. The advantage with a job posting is that you can just wait for applications to
come in. However, you ll miss out on personal recommendations and you might have a lot

Characteristics Of The Watermarking System
the CSF characteristics of the HVS in order to embed the watermarking data on selected wavelet
coefficients of the input image. The selected coefficients dwell on the detail sub bands and the
information about the edges of the image were contained in them. Hence, the embedded information
becomes invisible by exploiting the HVS which was less sensitive to alterations on high frequencies.
The success of their method in terms of robustness and transparency was illustrated by results of the
experiments conducted. Their approach performed against the diverse widespread signal processing
methods as compression, filtering, noise and cropping splendidly.

An adaptive image watermarking algorithm based on HMM in wavelet domain was presented by
Zhang Rong Yue et al. [27]. The algorithm considered both the energy correlation across the scale and
the different sub bands at the same level of the wavelet pyramid and employed a vector HMM model.
Intended for the HMM tree structure, they optimized an embedding strategy. They enhanced the
performance by employing the dynamical threshold schemes. The performance of the HMM based
watermarking algorithm against Stir mark attacks, such as JPEG compression, adding noise, median
cut and filter was radically enhanced.
A multi resolution watermarking method based on the discrete wavelet transform for copyright
protection of digital images was presented by Zolghadrasli and S. Rezazadeh [21]. The watermark
employed was a noise type Gaussian sequence. Watermark components were added to the significant
coefficients of each selected sub band by considering the human visual system in order to embed the
watermark robustly and imperceptibly. They enhanced the HVS model by performing some small
modifications. The extraction of the watermark involved the host image. They measured the
similarities of extracted watermarks using the Normalized Correlation Function. The robustness of
their method against wide variety of attacks was illustrated.

The atmosphere of the studio was incredible. The only words to describe the atmosphere was
angelic, electric, and amazing. Every single knob from the master mixer sitting on the table to the
smooth sound of the bass coming through the industrial speakers. It was any recording artist sanctuary
and refuge. The lights that changed colors from blue to green and finally to red. I wasn t sure how a
recording studio could feel like a club but be as calm and relaxed as a tennis match.
The smell was almost harmonious. As the air was filled with thick marijuana smoke i took a seat on
the couch as i observed what was happening. Artist after artist all trying to make history and hopefully
become a household name. The clothes some of these artist wore were very enthralling. One artist
named Baby key , had dreadlocks about half way down to his neck. They were colored green and

Total Cost Is Variable Cost And Fixed Cost
a. Total Cost :Total cost is variable cost and fixed cost combined. Variable cost is that cost which is
unsettled in nature and is straight correlated with the units of manufacture. If the company produce
more the variable cost will go high and if they produce less than the variable cost will be respectively
low. Fixed cost is always fixed in nature. Always it is fixed for a year or two and it will change at the
longer run. In the short run, fixed cost is constant in nature and it is not related to the number of units
of production. (Samuel. L 2000). TC = FC + VC Short run influence on total cost  Help the company

Average cost is different from the price, and depends on the contact with demand through elasticity of
demand and elasticity of supply. In cases of perfect competition, price may be lesser than average cost
due to marginal cost pricing. In the short run increase its level of output with the same fixed plant; the
economies of that scale of production change into diseconomies and the average cost then begins to
increasebrusquely. Average cost curve is a U shaped curve in short term (Campbell 2012). Short run

the Average cost: There is an opposite relationship between returns of inputs and the cost of

Introduction
Home Depot is one of the few businesses that come to mind when thinking about home improvement
and do it yourself projects. But, it is not necessarily the first one that comes to mind considering its
competitors like Lowe s, Ace Hardware, or True Value. In 1978 when Home Depot was founded by
Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank its growth seemed unstoppable. This is most evident by looking at
financials of the organization, in 1981 stock options were opened to the public and by 1984 Home
Depot was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (The Home Depot: Investor Relations). In 2000,

Once Nardelli turned his attention to cutting costs the problems became apparent, especially when the
workforce was drastically changed as Nardelli made the decision to cut costs by eliminating higher
paid employees and replacing them with less experienced and cheaper employees (Brown, 2011).
Members of the organization began to lose the sense of ownership that created the unique culture of
Home Depot. As a result customer service and satisfaction began to decline since there were no longer
experts to give tips and technical explanations to the Do It Yourself (DIY) customer base. Managers
were no longer given free reign to manage the store as they felt was appropriate to the location, and
instead now had numbers and quotas corporate expected them meet. Managers were no longer in
control of ordering inventory which resulted in many stores having product that was not being
purchased as it was ill suited to consumer demand. According to Brown (2011) in 2007 Bob Nardelli
refused to take a pay cut and left Home Depot to move on to Cerberus Capital Management (which he
later left in 2009 after they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection). In 2014, Home Depot decided to
promote from within and executive vice president Craig Menear became president and CEO (Home

Analysis Of Jeanne D Arc
A teen peasant guided by God, France under attack, and only a silver ring to track back into history. In
Medieval times, there were many aspiring stories of defying the meaning of a damsel. The defined
term of a damsel was a young, unmarried woman, although, embedded in our minds are women who
needs help. Joan of Arc didn t expect to be a helpless woman trapped in a tower, doomed until her
knight in shining armor saved her. She saved the French army from losing to Britain in the Hundred
Years War.
In 1412, Jeanne d Arc was born on a small farm in France. During this time period, there was a bloody
war going on, which is also known as the Hundred Years War. A conflict between England and France
over the right to own land, disputes of the next French throne, and economic conflicts. Less than fifty
years before was the Black plague which killed more than half of the country s population. Joan s
father was a farmer who practiced disciplinary while her mother was a home worker and emphasized
church ethics. Growing up, she was trained to tend animals and spin wool. Joan wasn t taught to read
or write, but she attended many village festivals and was obedient to her parents. Women during this

The easier Chi flows through houses, the wealthier families would be. Also, 2 other fundamental
principles of Feng Shui encompass the harmony of Yin Yang and rule of 5 elements. Yin and Yang, on
one hand, represent 2 opposite but intertwined forces of nature: Feminine (passive energy) and
Masculine (active energy). A good Yin Yang application might include strong/bright colors in mixture
with calm/lighter ones in house painting, adding decoration items with soft features to abate the
intensity of Yang dominated rooms. On the other hand, 5 element rule concentrates on 5 key
components of life: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. The integration of these 5 elements in each
part of the house is encouraged but not compulsory, though it would create balance within it.

Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay
Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct
themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her
children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live up
to these expectations established by society, then that mother is deemed a bad mother. Since a mother
gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered to be
unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal standards,
she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will argue that
Medea is not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social conventions of
motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that she rebels against
her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality by killing his sons and
ending his bloodline.
There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she does
this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful as a
woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the paragraphs
that follow.
The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its
conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition

Vaccinations Should Not Be A Medical Exemption From...
Vaccinations: The Right to Choose Is requiring vaccinations overstepping the bounds of our right to
make our own medical choices for ourselves as well as for our children? Or, is it safe and necessary
for the greater good to prevent deadly diseases? Are those who choose not to vaccinate themselves or
their children putting the rest of the population at risk? Where should the line, if any, be drawn? Why
are more and more people using exemptions to vaccinations? How safe and effective are vaccinations?
I will share important information on both sides of the issue to help you decide the answers to these
questions. Currently, all fifty U.S. states offer a medical exemption from vaccinations. This means that
someone could be exempt from receiving one or all of the vaccines based on medical necessity. For
example, those who have compromised or weakened immune systems should be able to get a medical
exemption. These exemptions require permission from a medical physician and getting them is
difficult as most doctors in the mainstream medical community support and encourage vaccinations.
There are two other types of exemptions religious and philosophical. As of October 2016, three states
California, West Virginia, and Mississippi do not offer either of these. They are medical exemption
states only. Of the remaining states, 32 of them offer medical and religious exemptions. Only the
remaining 18 states offer all three exemptions. These numbers are decreasing as more and

the greats! The famous words uttered by the greatest silent film star, Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin has
blessed the lives of many throughout his eighty or so years of life. Chaplin isn t a war hero neither
does he risk his life for others. Chaplin is a hero in his own way. He spent his life entertaining others,
making them laugh, cry, or even getting them riled up. Chaplin was able to overcome childhood
struggles and impact society with his films while becoming the Hollywood icon we all know today.

What Is The Impact Of Bombing On Germany
The technological developments that assisted bombing, the impact of bombing on the German
economy, the impact of bombing on the German civilian morale and also the effects on the German
war effort all help explain why the Allied strategic bombing of Germany during the Second World War
was significant to quite a far extent. Each of the following paragraphs will analyse the impacts of the
Allied strategic bombing on different aspects of Germany and also what factors assisted the Allied

The attacks on Hamburg were not a turning point of the war as Bomber Command s fortunes had
completely disappeared once they started targeting Berlin, where their loss rates peaked to
unacceptably high levels. Therefore Gee made less of an impact in assisting the Allied strategic
bombing of Germany compared to Window. However the impact on Hamburg caused by Window was
relatively short lived because the Germans countered. On the other hand the long range escort fighters,
disposable fuel tanks and The Thousand Bomber raids had a long lived impact. The P 51 Mustang was
an important aircraft in the war that had an American airframe and a British Rolls Royce Merlin
Engine. Disposable fuel tanks, which increased the Allied fighter s range were loaded onto the P 51
Mustang and by March 1944, the modified Mustang had a 1800 mile armed range and could fly with
the bombers to Berlin and back. Richard Ovary said The long range escort fighter transformed the air
war overnight. Lastly the thousand bomber raid on 30th to 31st May 1942 against Cologne saw the
destruction of a third of the inner zone of Cologne along with the destroying of 20000 houses and the
evacuation of 200000 people.

Summary Of Aristotle By Billy Collins
Where I am in Life In the poem Aristotle, by Billy Collins, it evaluates the three stages in life: the
beginning, middle, and end. Through each stanza readers encounter different sets of tones and
concepts that basically sum of the process of human life. Following careful evaluation, I believe that
where I am in life fits in the criteria of stanza one and two, the beginning and the middle stages.
Ideally, the beginning that Billy Collins refers to in the poem focuses on the meaning of innocence
when someone is born or something new has just begun. In the poem, Billy Collins states, This is the
first part where the wheels begin to turn... (23 24). As a high school senior, I imagine that the stage I
am in right now correlates to the beginning,

Cezanne applied his paint in thick layers with broad, discrete, and methodical brushstrokes, remaining
true to the architectural ideal that every portion of the canvas must contribute to the structural integrity
of the painting. With each brushstroke, Cezanne was constructing a picture as apposed to painting it
(Paul Cézanne Biography). In contrast, Monet used a single color, applying it, using a bold, flat and
evenly loaded brush. This technique is called tache, a French word for blot. This technique moved
paintings away from the blending of colors on the canvas, and led to the application of different colors
to represent the ripples across water and how the light falls on the subject, as seen in Monet s painting

Realism in Uncle Vanya and a Doll s House
A play serves as the author s tool for critiquing society. One rarely encounters the ability to transcend
accepted social beliefs. These plays reflect controversial issues that the audience can relate to because
they interact in the same situations every day. As late nineteenth century playwrights point out the
flaws of mankind they also provide an answer to the controversy. Unknowingly the hero or heroine
solves the problem at the end of the play and indirectly sends a message to the audience on how to
solve their own problem. br br Henrik Ibsen and Anton Chekov both provide unique analysis on issues

Long Bone Osteomyelitis Case Studies
Osteomyelitis of the Long Bones
Osteomyelitis is an inflammation of the bone and bone marrow that can occur in any bone in the body,
however, is more commonly seen in the long bones, the spine, and the foot bones of a diabetic.
Osteomyelitis typically begins as an infection of the medullary cavity, quickly extends to the
periosteum, and settles in the calcified portion of the bone. Even with the significant advances in
diagnosing and treating these types of infections, long bone osteomyelitis still presents a variety of
challenges and remains difficult to treat. The severity of the disease is staged depending upon the

duration and host factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conditions like malignant and benign tumors, cysts, non infected non unions, old trauma, and bone
infarcts may present symptoms similar to those of osteomyelitis. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis is
dependent on culture results and histologic features. Localized bone and joint pain, erythema, swelling
and drainage around the site of infection may be indications of contiguous focus osteomyelitis. Other
common indicators are local bone loss, sequestrum formation and bony sclerosis. The patient usually
presents with chronic pain and drainage, and obtain a low grade fever (Calhoun et al.). Often times,
drainage and sinus tracts are found near the site of infection. Diagnosis of long bone osteomyelitis
rests on isolation of the pathogen from bone lesion or blood culture (Calhoun et al.). Positive blood
cultures can eliminate the need for a bone biopsy, in the case of hematogenous osteomyelitis, provided
there is radiographic evidence of osteomyelitis. Culture independent methods such as polymerase
chain reaction based detection methods are much more sensitive and accurate (Calhoun et al.). It is
critical to obtain cultures before antimicrobial therapy begins. Antibiotic treatment will be directed on
the basis of cultures or deep bone biopsy and antibiotic sensitivity tests. In today s labs, a variety of
test methods are used including broth microdilution, disk diffusion, and antibiotic gradient

The Impact Of Modern Social Workers On The Community
Introduction Modern social workers participate actively in helping people to obtain rights, services,
benefits and opportunities that they might not otherwise obtain through micro policy advocacy, ?often
prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations when they engage in advocacy? (Jansson, 2016, p. 21).
Through community immersion, the social worker gains an understanding of the community attributes
and desiderata, requiring them to utilize their experience and expertise to advocate policies that will
satisfy the client?s needs (NASW, n.d.). Furthermore, when social workers immerse themselves in the
community, it becomes an act of care and concern to serve the community. Compelling them to
implement new changes, depict workable intervention schemes, and generate attainable treatment
plans to satisfy the needs of the individuals, families and community. The community that will be

miles away from the US Mexico border in Tijuana.
National City is divided into three sub communities based on their regional parks: Kimball, El Toyon
and Las Palmas (KTU+A, 2014). Because of National City?s unique location in close proximity to
downtown San Diego, it is considered an urban city, as defined by Jannson (2016), with a lot of
commercial activity and impoverishment. Depending on the social worker?s role, knowledge on the
type of community is crucial; when there is a deficit of

Abusive Relationships In A Thousand Splendid Suns
Unhealthy Relationships
The greatest marriages are built on teamwork. A mutual respect, a healthy dose of admiration, and a
never ending portion of love and grace. (Weaver). As nationally acclaimed author Fawn Weaver
suggests, a successful marriage is based on the mutual infatuation within a couple, as well with the
longevity of newly found love that is found in the premature ages of a relationship. Although it may
not always be the most easy thing to do at all times, a healthy marriage should consist of the ceaseless
admiration of the two through smooth as in rough. Even though this is way that an ideal everlasting
relationship should be undertook, that is not always the case. In many instances, the Biblical bonding

In Rasheed s case this is most likely because he lives in a very patriarchal society in which males
make all the rules. As a matter of fact once the taliban came into power, one of their rules was that
women will stay inside their homes at all times and that if a woman should go outside the home they
should be accompanied by a male relative. (278). Obviously a society in which women are not even
allowed to go outside without a male relative, increases the amount of power that men have
exponentially. Although American culture during the 1990s did not have such strict laws against
women at the time, many occupations were filled by male personnel. As a matter of fact, just over 30
million women were working in the 1990s, compared to the 55 million men at the time. (Census).
Even though America was not nearly as male dominated as Afghanistan during the Taliban era, it was
still very patriarchal. This is a very probably cause to the reason why seven out of ten domestic
disputes are male against female. (Campbell). Khaled shows through his novel that it is almost always
the male that is doing the abusing in their Afghan society at the time. Mariam makes it clear that the
women are helpless against the power of the male by incorporating statements such as, As a reminder
of how women like us suffer. How quietly we endure all that falls upon us. (91). Under the

The Blues: in Hughes The Blues I m Playing and Baldwin s Sonny s Blues
In Langston Hughes The Blues I m Playing, the blues are the source of Oceola s life and her choices.
Langston is trying to illustrate the conflict between life and art. The art in this story is represented in a
confined manner, as a disciplined career with a white woman acting as the overseer in the young lady
s life. Art to Oceola, with its profit, convenience and privileges offers an array of benefits, but being
embodied in Dora Ellsworth, the art seems to drift away from life s vitality. Life in Oceola sings itself

Listen!... How sad and gay it is. Blue and happy laughing and crying...How white like you and black

In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues he deals with a man trying to find his identity in a very hostile
society. The blues in this story is used in a more emotional manner which recollects the past. It also
repairs the relationship between the two brothers who have chosen two different ways of coping in
their ghetto environment. The blues also serves as a communication devise between the two brothers.
Baldwin uses the blues to state a fact; the ugliness and meanness inherent in the human condition. In
order to really understand the message of the blues you have to be one that has suffered just like
Sonny and the elder brother. The blues that they play also communicates to other sufferers who have

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a work of radical intertextuality, as its very title Frankenstein: or, the

contemporary poets: in her pages Mary Shelley quotes directly from Byron, Coleridge, Wordsworth,
and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Moreover, the Creature learns language and cultural forms from four major
texts: Plutarch s Lives, Milton s Paradise Lost , Goethe s Sorrows of Young Werther, and Volney s

It includes letters from Werther to his friend Winhelm, about the series of events regarding his love
triangle and the roller coaster of emotions it causes. Werther decides he would rather die than remain
miserable, so he commits suicide. As the creature reads this novel, he begins to develop a sense of
humanity and emotions as he starts to relate to others. Werther makes the creature question his role in
society, and makes him begin to comprehend depression and despair. Many deaths occur throughout
the story, including Werther s suicide. All the deaths were due to the loss of companionship, which
amplifies the role of nature in Frankenstein and reiterates the importance of relationships. This story
calls to question the possibility of the creature taking his own life.
As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition. I found myself

What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.

The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised before any
analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story, the writer
proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of persecution complex . I
disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is written on the diary is just the
outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value of the story would be somewhat
meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity and consistency. Hence, the madman is
not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell
me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed
man who always thought having two eyes is normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two
eyes. Eventually the two eyed man ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the
one eyed men. From the perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who
became conscious of the truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth.
As it is illustrated in the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is
acceptable because it is their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who
realize that cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism
is inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to
break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the existing
convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make it happen. I
personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In addition,

The Spy in the Computer Essay
The Spy in the Computer
A study of how computer games, as a modern narrative form, draw on and develop the tradition of
espionage fiction.
The spy entered the computer a long time ago. During the Second World War, both the Axis and the
Allies used the computer extensively in code breaking and allied operations. And following from these
rather rudimentary forays, espionage through the computer has reached alarming proportions even as
other technologies have continued to advance. The focus of the present paper will, however, be on
something different. It will not be on real espionage so much as on espionage in computer games. The
computer game has continually been enriched by better narrative possibilities, graphic interfaces and

Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming obstacles and moving
forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would mean the distance of the player or the
reader from the fictional reality.
The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only after we have
analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition,
A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A game is not an
objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is necessary only to the extent required
to support the player s fantasy. The player s fantasy is the key agent in making the game
psychologically real.
Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller. But here I must
mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not take into account certain new
developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in computer graphics and interactivity. The computer
game, now, is better able to respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content
than it did before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ), can far
exceed the effects created by the player s imagination.

Socrates Vs Plato Dualism
Morals, as defined by The Merriam Webster dictionary, stands for of or relating to principles of right
and wrong in behavior . You can see the evidence of morals in every activity, choosing to be honest or
to lie, possessing respect or showing contempt, exhibiting kindness or inconsideration, all are
examples of moral code. Many may argue that there is dualism in the world, two opposing principles,
either good or evil, and others may take the stance of monism, stating that it is only necessary to
choose one theory for your moral decision making. Well there are many morality perspectives we
could look at I will narrow it down to Plato s theory of morality, which was one people always will do
what is right when they know what is right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man contemplates, does he use the information and make himself extremely rich or not. The man
goes ahead and uses the numbers and wins the money, Just like anybody he s happy about winning but
in the back of his mind he knows he cheated. A couple weeks pass and he s got the money and he
celebrating. Then he arrested along with his friend because they used inside information and now have
to spend time in jail and give back all the winnings including what the winner spent. I know that
people do the wrong thing even if they know what is right because of greed. I know that Plato would
not agree with my example because he would see that the man was corrupted by another and
somewhat prompted to do wrong. Is my scenario a perfect representation of a choice between good or
bad, no because there could be many ways where there could be different variables like the man
needed the money which could have influenced him to do wrong but for a good

Nurture Nature Vs Nature
The debate between nature and nurture addresses genetic and environmental determinants and which
principles apply to our lives. Humans are affected by choices made by others and ourselves and things
that are meant to happen. Free will is being able to make a choice to do something on our own or to
act in certain situations independently of natural, social, or divine restraints (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Social cues are verbal or nonverbal hints that are meant to guide peers about their actions, the
conversation they re having, etc.. Determinism is the belief that everything is naturally connected to
the universe and every event happens because of the events that came before it. Fatalism follows the
belief that events occur naturally, but without influence of humans. Nurture is a greater influences on
our lives than nature; humans operate upon the principles of free will, social cues, and determinism.
Determinism supports the idea that our outcomes are based on our choices and that they are meant to
happen that way. An example of one s deterministic view is Brent Staples describing the ways he
unintentionally frightened those around him in public and he would go out of his way to make them
feel safer. It s unfair that an accomplished college graduate should be judged for their appearance, as
well as anyone else for that matter. Staples had no obligation to act the way he did, but in order to
keep himself safe, he could not pose a threat and get away with it as a black

Essay #3: Cookies are widely used to track consumers and profile their preferences and interests.
Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the use of cookies for both businesses and consumers.
Introduction:
Cookies have become an online phenomenon. They have many benefits and drawbacks for both
businesses and consumers in modern society. Everyone that has access to the internet, a phone or
laptop and uses the Google search engine to browse for their content of interest, is prone to the
implementation of cookies on their virtual profiles. Cookies are controversially beneficial to
businesses more so than consumers; however, consumers do get suggestions/advertisements of the
content they are interested in occasionally.
Consumers often use a search engine such as Google to browse for content that applies to their
lifestyle, interests, hobbies and career focused information. Every search that is carried out by a
consumer, on any browser, is monitored and recorded. This data is collected using a size 1x1 bit code
labelled cookies, that acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cookies, also that most are not able to properly identify what a cookie is (Ha et al. 2006; Hoofnagle

Technology Advantages And Disadvantages
Now of days we are beginning to experience natural disasters, from the category five hurricane in
Texas to major earth quakes in New Mexico. The way that things are looking now I believe we will
experience these situations more and more throughout the years. Most people have electronic devices
but do not know the basics on how to protect their devices from power surges, power outages and
other electrical variations. In the following paragraphs I will give you tips and information on how to
protect your computers and devices from power outages. This information will be helpful for people
who are on budgets but still want something that will actually work and others who are not on budget
and want top quality ways to protect their devices from power outages and other electronic devices.
One of the ways that you could protect your computer and other devices is to purchase a surge
protector. A surge protector s is an electrical device designed to protect a computer against the harmful
effects of power surges and spikes and sudden outages, they can contain up to 120 volts or more and
they are also inexpensive. They run around to be about twenty to forty dollars depending on which
brand you buy. The most recommended brand that will last long but is really good for its price is
Belkin or tripplite. A surge protector works by transferring the excess voltage via the devices
grounding wire. It stops it from reaching the electronic device and damaging it. When there is a

Journal Of A Hero s Journey Essay
12 March 1956 Upon unmooring from the port of Gibraltar we had, until the 20th of March,
foreboding skies and a strong headwind. During this unfavourable weather, all available hands were
employed in securing goods. The security of each individual lashing is checked physically to confirm
the proper securing of the cargoes. By 0700, 13th March 1956, we had voyaged over 30 leagues and
reached the western point of the Tyrrhenian sea. Later, around 1200 weather conditions began to
deteriorate. Around 1300, weather conditions become arduous and the captain begins assisting the 4th
officer in the navigation of the ship. Accordingly, the ship s heading is changed to face the
predominant wind in order to minimize the rolling of the ship. Near ... Show more content on

Upon further inquiry of the situation, I learn that these boys had been presumed dead after their plane
crashed during reassignment. Moreover the boys are extremely tight lipped when questioned on the
circumstances or subject of what happened on the island, though feelings of guilt and shame hang
heavy in the presence of this topic. The only information we ve been able to retrieve pretaining to the
island younger ones. They are often overheard speaking of a beast which roamed the island. The first
boy whom is named Ralph has isolated himself from the others and refuses to associate with them. He
is particularly apprehensive when in the presence of a second boy named Jack. The other boys appear
distraught, but are slowly adjusting to ship life. Finally the captain sent a message notifying the EGCI
of the newfound children, we are instructed to proceed with the predestined route to Ghawdex.
Following the previous instructions given by the EGCI, at 0500 on 24th March 1956, we moored the
ship in the port of Ghawdex. Upon arrival a psychologist attended the ship in order to give psychical
support as needed, after a debriefing the boys are transported back to Britain by way of airship. One
crew member is sent to the local hospital for treatment of a fractured rib originating from the incident.
Final assessments of the damages to the ship and the loss of cargo will be carried out in

Historiography of the Reconstruction Era
Riham Elshazli Professor Clement Price Civil War and the Reconstruction 12/11/12 Historiography of
the Reconstruction Era At a time when America was trying to piece itself back together, the
Reconstruction Era is one of the most important chapters in history. It is also, however, one of the
most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of freed slaves needed to
be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was moderate in his views as to what
should happen to restore order to the United States. However, some Republicans had other plans in
mind. They wanted to impose harsher terms and used Congress to do so, justly giving them the name
Radical Republicans. Opinions about this time period have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his academic
view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the country as movies
such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These movies portrayed
Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They depicted blacks as
being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first painted. In short,
Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed black people and
offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t until the 1930s
when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge Dunning s
traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. Du Bois to counter his
opinion but the attempt did not hold. In Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois argues that the
corruption spoken about was highly exaggerated and that Dunning overlooked many of
Reconstruction s achievements. Historians disregarded what Du Bois had to say because his use of the
Marxist theory and because he was seen as a radical at the time. It was not until 20 years later when
other historians, known as revisionists, began to echo Du Bois arguments. While these revisionists still
saw Reconstruction as a failure, they disagreed with Dunning

Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous...
I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion
of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine,
miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its
opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God
becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found
this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period
of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text,
which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as
usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp
referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been
realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned
to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of
disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and
among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and
internal dissention. In chapter 60 the vision is unfulfilled; in chapter 58, God tells the

  • 2. Jane Austen s Emma Emma Woodhouse: Awake or Dreaming? A dream. A world where ideas run wild and imagination is the primary mode of thought. Reality is a faraway distance. Eventually, the dream comes to an end as reality creeps into sleep and the fantasy finishes. The story of Jane Austen s Emma is one of a similar account. Emma Woodhouse, the main character, has an active imagination that causes her to loose sight of reality like getting lost in dreaming. Her imagination and disposition to think a little too well of herself causes Emma to be emotionally arrogant and skews her perception of other characters (Austen, 1). Throughout the novel, Emma struggles to develop emotionally because her dream derived visions of those around her and her obsession with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She even goes so far as keeping Harriet from marrying Mr. Martin, who both truly loves her and is closer to her in social status. While it is ultimately Harriet s choice to decline Mr. Martin, Emma uses her popularity to influence the decision. [T]hough Emma continued to protest against any assistance being wanted [from Harriet], it was in fact given in the formation of every sentence (34). Caught up in her self appointed role as cupid, Emma ignores the possibility that Harriet and Mr. Martin could ever live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet s rejection to Mr. Martin, Knightley suspects Emma s attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns Emma about the unlikelihood of Mr. Elton reducing himself to Harriet s inferior position through marriage. While his warning causes Emma to momentarily doubt herself, she quickly erases these thoughts with a satisfaction which settled her with her own mind, and convinced her... she had done nothing which woman s friendship and woman s feelings would not justify (43). Evidently, Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley s rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more amusing ideas. She remains confident in her own imaginative schemes, letting that govern her conduct. As the novel progresses and Mr. Elton reveals Emma as the true object of his affection, Emma s prediction and meddling proves to be a failure. In reflecting on her behavior, Emma notes, ... • 3. A Look Into The Dachau Concentration Camp Libby Baert HIST B323 28274 April 20th, 2015 RA The First: A Look into the Dachau Concentration Camp In March of 1933, the Nazis opened the gates to what would be the beginning of a living for hell for over 180,000 people and the beginning of the end for over 28,000 of those people ( Dachau , 2014). Gates marked with the words Arbeit macht Frei , or work makes freedom or work liberates , led to Dachau, the first concentration camp instated during the Holocaust. Although there is much known about Dachau and concentration camps in general, there is still some intrigue surrounding the first concentration camp. This paper aims to focus on and look Dachau s purpose, it s inhabitants, and it s happenings and the legacy it has left behind. On February 27th of 1933, the Reichstag, the German parliament building, was burned completely down. To this day, nobody really knows who set the building on fire. Hitler took the arson as an opportunity to put blame on the Communists, but Communists believed that Hitler s own party started the fire so that they could sabotage the Communists. Even some non Nazi Germans thought that Hitler was behind it, but there was nothing they could do about it. If they spoke out there was a risk that they would be accused of being Communist sympathizers (Bergen, 2003). Hitler s answer to this atrocity was to target the Communists, and soon Dachau was opened. Dachau was the very first concentration camp instated by the Nazi party. Located in a small ... Culp Paper I March 4th, 2011 The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty As the dominant philosophical school for around two thousand years in Chinese imperial history, Confucianism is always regarded as the most representative ideology of China, associated with numerous books, poems, artworks and stories that glorify Confucianism s permeation into every corner of Chinese society. However, before Han Wudi, Confucianism was only one of those competing philosophical schools founded in Spring and Autumn period. During the Warring States period and Qin dynasty, Legalism took place of all other philosophical schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is always easy to start the process of centralization but difficult to maintain the state of centralization. Faced with this knotty problem, Wudi adopted Confucianism, which underlined the moral basis of superior subordinate relations, appreciating that in the long run the ruler would achieve his goals more easily and economically when his subordinates viewed their relationship with the ruler in moral terms of loyalty and responsibility (65). In fact, Han s Confucianism is not the same as the Confucianism during the period of the Spring and Autumn or Warring States. It is a special status of Confucianism. As Ebrey writes in his book, Han Confucianism itself was eclectic, fortifying itself with precepts and philosophical concerns drawn from what had been competing philosophical schools in the pre Qin period (77). Different from the traditional Confucianism, Han s Confucianism assimilated thoughts from Legalism, Daoism and other schools, such as Moism s thought of universal love (兼爱) and yin and yang school s thought of five phases (阴阳五行论). Han Confucians sought ways to comprehend the world around them as a self generating and self sustaining organism governed by cyclical yet never replicating flows of yin and yang and the five phases (fire, water, earth, metal, and wood) (78). Han Confucians thought that if one of these phases was disturbed, the whole system would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The selected coefficients dwell on the detail sub bands and the information about the edges of the image were contained in them. Hence, the embedded information becomes invisible by exploiting the HVS which was less sensitive to alterations on high frequencies. The success of their method in terms of robustness and transparency was illustrated by results of the experiments conducted. Their approach performed against the diverse widespread signal processing methods as compression, filtering, noise and cropping splendidly. A scaling based image adaptive watermarking system which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An adaptive image watermarking algorithm based on HMM in wavelet domain was presented by Zhang Rong Yue et al. [27]. The algorithm considered both the energy correlation across the scale and the different sub bands at the same level of the wavelet pyramid and employed a vector HMM model. Intended for the HMM tree structure, they optimized an embedding strategy. They enhanced the performance by employing the dynamical threshold schemes. The performance of the HMM based watermarking algorithm against Stir mark attacks, such as JPEG compression, adding noise, median cut and filter was radically enhanced. A multi resolution watermarking method based on the discrete wavelet transform for copyright protection of digital images was presented by Zolghadrasli and S. Rezazadeh [21]. The watermark employed was a noise type Gaussian sequence. Watermark components were added to the significant coefficients of each selected sub band by considering the human visual system in order to embed the watermark robustly and imperceptibly. They enhanced the HVS model by performing some small modifications. The extraction of the watermark involved the host image. They measured the similarities of extracted watermarks using the Normalized Correlation Function. The robustness of their method against wide variety of attacks was illustrated. Once Nardelli turned his attention to cutting costs the problems became apparent, especially when the workforce was drastically changed as Nardelli made the decision to cut costs by eliminating higher paid employees and replacing them with less experienced and cheaper employees (Brown, 2011). Members of the organization began to lose the sense of ownership that created the unique culture of Home Depot. As a result customer service and satisfaction began to decline since there were no longer experts to give tips and technical explanations to the Do It Yourself (DIY) customer base. Managers were no longer given free reign to manage the store as they felt was appropriate to the location, and instead now had numbers and quotas corporate expected them meet. Managers were no longer in control of ordering inventory which resulted in many stores having product that was not being purchased as it was ill suited to consumer demand. According to Brown (2011) in 2007 Bob Nardelli refused to take a pay cut and left Home Depot to move on to Cerberus Capital Management (which he later left in 2009 after they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection). A good Yin Yang application might include strong/bright colors in mixture with calm/lighter ones in house painting, adding decoration items with soft features to abate the intensity of Yang dominated rooms. • 18. Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live up to these expectations established by society, then that mother is deemed a bad mother. Since a mother gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered to be unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal standards, she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will argue that Medea is not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that she rebels against her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality by killing his sons and ending his bloodline. There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she does this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful as a woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the paragraphs that follow. The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vaccinations: The Right to Choose Is requiring vaccinations overstepping the bounds of our right to make our own medical choices for ourselves as well as for our children? Or, is it safe and necessary for the greater good to prevent deadly diseases? Are those who choose not to vaccinate themselves or their children putting the rest of the population at risk? Where should the line, if any, be drawn? Why are more and more people using exemptions to vaccinations? How safe and effective are vaccinations? I will share important information on both sides of the issue to help you decide the answers to these questions. Currently, all fifty U.S. states offer a medical exemption from vaccinations. This means that someone could be exempt from receiving one or all of the vaccines based on medical necessity. For example, those who have compromised or weakened immune systems should be able to get a medical exemption. These exemptions require permission from a medical physician and getting them is difficult as most doctors in the mainstream medical community support and encourage vaccinations. The Teachings of Intertwined Texts Intertextuality and Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a work of radical intertextuality, as its very title Frankenstein: or, the modern Prometheus indicates. No other novel of the period is so imbued with the voices of contemporary poets: in her pages Mary Shelley quotes directly from Byron, Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Moreover, the Creature learns language and cultural forms from four major texts: Plutarch s Lives, Milton s Paradise Lost , Goethe s Sorrows of Young Werther, and Volney s Ruins of Empire that, for better or worse, shape his destiny. Thus, it becomes an exemplary text for scholarly inquiry. Even prior to opening the book, Mary Shelley incorporates intertextuality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It includes letters from Werther to his friend Winhelm, about the series of events regarding his love triangle and the roller coaster of emotions it causes. Werther decides he would rather die than remain miserable, so he commits suicide. As the creature reads this novel, he begins to develop a sense of humanity and emotions as he starts to relate to others. Werther makes the creature question his role in society, and makes him begin to comprehend depression and despair. Many deaths occur throughout the story, including Werther s suicide. All the deaths were due to the loss of companionship, which amplifies the role of nature in Frankenstein and reiterates the importance of relationships. This story calls to question the possibility of the creature taking his own life. As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition. I found myself similar, yet at the same time strangely unlike to the beings concerning whom I read, and to whose conversation I was a listener. I sympathized with, and partly understood them, but I was unformed in mind; I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free ; and there was none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them. (Shelley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. A Madman s Short Story Quod By Lu Xun In 1915, the New Culture Movement was initiated, being accompanied by the ideas mainly aimed at criticising the Confucian traditional values in China, and also approaching a more modern and western mindset. In 1919, a mass protest of over 6000 students was conducted to rebel against the signing of the Versailles Treaty, which would hand over Chinese territorial rights from the Germans to the Japanese and this movement later became known as the May Fourth Movement. One of the significant leaders of this movement who made great contribution, was Lu Xun. As it was mentioned by the professor during the class, it is quite of an unquestionable fact that Lu Xun was a highly influential writer of the New Culture Generation. He often discussed many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised before any analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story, the writer proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of persecution complex . I disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is written on the diary is just the outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value of the story would be somewhat meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity and consistency. Hence, the madman is not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed man who always thought having two eyes is normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two eyes. Eventually the two eyed man ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the one eyed men. From the perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who became conscious of the truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth. As it is illustrated in the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is acceptable because it is their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who realize that cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism is inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the existing convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make it happen. I personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In addition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The spy entered the computer a long time ago. During the Second World War, both the Axis and the Allies used the computer extensively in code breaking and allied operations. And following from these rather rudimentary forays, espionage through the computer has reached alarming proportions even as other technologies have continued to advance. The focus of the present paper will, however, be on something different. It will not be on real espionage so much as on espionage in computer games. The computer game has continually been enriched by better narrative possibilities, graphic interfaces and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming obstacles and moving forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would mean the distance of the player or the reader from the fictional reality. The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only after we have analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition, A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A game is not an objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is necessary only to the extent required to support the player s fantasy. The player s fantasy is the key agent in making the game psychologically real. Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller. But here I must mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not take into account certain new developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in computer graphics and interactivity. The computer game, now, is better able to respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content than it did before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ), can far exceed the effects created by the player s imagination. Games, like stories, attempt to represent reality. • 39. Nurture Nature Vs Nature The debate between nature and nurture addresses genetic and environmental determinants and which principles apply to our lives. Humans are affected by choices made by others and ourselves and things that are meant to happen. Free will is being able to make a choice to do something on our own or to act in certain situations independently of natural, social, or divine restraints (Encyclopedia Britannica). Social cues are verbal or nonverbal hints that are meant to guide peers about their actions, the conversation they re having, etc.. Determinism is the belief that everything is naturally connected to the universe and every event happens because of the events that came before it. Fatalism follows the belief that events occur naturally, but without influence of humans. Nurture is a greater influences on our lives than nature; humans operate upon the principles of free will, social cues, and determinism. Determinism supports the idea that our outcomes are based on our choices and that they are meant to happen that way. An example of one s deterministic view is Brent Staples describing the ways he unintentionally frightened those around him in public and he would go out of his way to make them feel safer. It s unfair that an accomplished college graduate should be judged for their appearance, as well as anyone else for that matter. It is also, however, one of the most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of freed slaves needed to be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was moderate in his views as to what should happen to restore order to the United States. However, some Republicans had other plans in mind. Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his academic view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the country as movies such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These movies portrayed Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They depicted blacks as being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first painted. In short, Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed black people and offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t until the 1930s when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge Dunning s traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. • 45. Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous... I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine, miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text, which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and internal dissention.
