The document discusses mental health, including definitions, common disorders, and the Philippine Mental Health Law. It defines mental health as cognitive, behavioral and emotional well-being. Common disorders include anxiety disorders, mood disorders like depression, and schizophrenia. Anxiety disorders are the most common and include panic disorder, phobias, OCD, and PTSD. Mood disorders involve changes in mood like depression and bipolar disorder. Schizophrenia typically begins between ages 15-25 and involves symptoms like delusions and hallucinations. In our country plenty of legal orders interact with mental disorders in order to protect the interests of
mentally ill, society and the state. These legislations are enacted to protect the society from dangerous manifestations of mental illness. There are guidelines regarding restrain, admission and discharge, procedures of civil and criminal action with regard to mentally ill. But do these laws discuss about proper care and treatment? Are there provisions for post discharge care and rehabilitation?
IntroductionMental health conditions have effects regardless of .docxvrickens
Introduction
Mental health conditions have effects regardless of race, color, gender, or identity. Anyone can experience the challenges of mental illness regardless of their background. Although we are similar, your experiences and how you understand and deal with these conditions may be different. Anyone can develop a mental health problem, but African Americans sometimes experience more severe forms of mental health conditions because of limited resources and other barriers. African Americans are twenty percent more likely to have severe psychological distress than Whites are. Also, African Americans and other minority communities are more likely to have similar experiences, such as barriers from health, educational, social, and economic resources because of cultural and societal factors. These may contribute to worse mental health outcomes. More than half of the people in the United States are being recognized with a mental illness in their lifetime; however, now not everybody will acquire the assistance they need. Even though mental illness is common and might affect everyone, there is still a stigma attached. This stigma creates shame in seeking help, especially in the African American community. The understanding of mental illnesses has come a far way from where it used to be, but improvements have to make. Mental illnesses should not be viewed any differently from physical diseases. I believe the two are very similar. When the mind is ill, it is not just the brain, but it has effects on the whole body and health overall. Substance abuse, self-damage, and suicide are widespread and dangerous in people with mental illness. The stigma connected to mental illness stops people from getting the assistance they need and causes them to cover their pain. Clinically trained social workers are the nation’s largest group of mental health service providers. (Staff, 2016). This is important to social work because social workers push the conversation of mental health forward. Many social workers in the field are first responders to most mental health claims. Also, the stigma of mental illness in the african american community has to change and social workers can be the driving force of a new outlook of mental health. To navigate towards a better views on mental health it is important to understand how we got to this point. Though this text it will discuss the following, what is mental illness, historical information of mental health in the African American community, barriers to mental health in the African American community, also the perspective African Americas have on mental health.

Abstract
Everyone is susceptible to the development of mental health regardless of race, color, gender, or identity. More than half of the citizens in the United States are recognized with a mental illness in their lifetime, and African Americans are at higher risk of developing a mental illness due to limited resources and other barriers. The challenge is further enhanced in the community due to a stigma prevailing in the group that prevents most members from seeking medical help. The lack of knowledge about mental illness calls for increased awareness of the challenge, especially when the condition is viewed differently from other physical diseases. The significant impacts of mental illness in the African American demography makes it a healthcare issue and calls for further consideration of the condition as more social workers are needed to work with the community to address the issue. The barriers to knowledge and access to medical assistance among African Americans take center-stage in this paper.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Issues of Mental Health and its care are raised; Art has become a
supplemental approach in “healing” or creating a sense of
“progressive development in cognitive reasoning” for patients to
have some level of control of their well-being and reality.
The methods of lobotomy were usually used for patients that are
aggressive and violent; lobotomy is a surgical operation involving
incision into the prefrontal lobe of the brain, formerly used to treat
mental illness.
Other issues presented to the movie that are not mental health
issues are: Gender Equality and Medical Malpractices
3. Definition of
Mental Health
Mental health refers to our cognitive, behavioral,
and emotional wellbeing - it is all about how we
think, feel, and behave. The term 'mental health'
is sometimes used to mean an absence of a
mental disorder.
Mental health can affect daily life, relationships, and even physical
health.
Mental health also includes a person's ability to enjoy life - to attain a
balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological
resilience.
4. Definition of
Mental Health
According to Medilexicon's medical dictionary, mental health is:
"Emotional, behavioral, and social maturity or normality; the
absence of a mental or behavioral disorder; a state of
psychological well-being in which one has achieved a satisfactory
integration of one's instinctual drives acceptable to both oneself
and one's social milieu; an appropriate balance of love, work, and
leisure pursuits.“
According to theWHO (World Health Organization), mental health
is:
"... a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her
own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work
productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to
his or her community."
The WHO stresses that mental health "is not just the absence of
mental disorder."

Experts say we all have the potential to develop mental health
problems; Regardless of Age, Gender, Race and Social-Economic
Status.
According to latest numbers of the World Health Organization
(WHO), over 300 million people are known to be suffering from
depression worldwide. While here in the Philippines, over six
million Filipinos live with anxiety and depressive disorders.
There are also 2,558 recorded suicides in the country in 2012,
where most were males diagnosed with mental health disorders.
A large proportion of the people who have a mental disorder have
more than one.
In the U.S. and much of the developed world, mental disorders are
one of the leading causes of disability.

Phobias - these may include simple phobias (a disproportionate fear
of objects), social phobias (fear of being subject to the judgment of
others), and agoraphobia (dread of situations where getting away or
breaking free may be difficult). We really do not know how many
phobias there are - there could be thousands of types.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) - the person has obsessions and
compulsions. In other words, constant stressful thoughts (obsessions),
and a powerful urge to perform repetitive acts, such as hand washing
(compulsion).
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) - this can occur after somebody
has been through a traumatic event - something horrible or
frightening that they experienced or witnessed. During this type of
event, the person thinks that their life or other people's lives are in

Mental Issues?
14. Myths & Facts
Myth: Mental health problems don't affect me.
Fact: Mental health problems are actually very common.
The mental health situation in the Philippines is something we
should be able to talk freely about. Approximately 1 in 5 Filipino
adults suffers from a mental disorder — this isn’t to mention the
10 to 15 percent of children who also have mental health
conditions.
The most common mental illnesses in the country include
schizophrenia, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD), and depression.
15. Myths & Facts
Myth: Children don't experience mental health problems.
Fact: Even very young children may show early warning signs of
mental health concerns. These mental health problems are often
clinically diagnosable, and can be a product of the interaction of
biological, psychological, and social factors.
Half of all mental health disorders show first signs before a person
turns 14 years old, and three quarters of mental health disorders
begin before age 24.
Unfortunately, less than 20% of children and adolescents with
diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they
need. Early mental health support can help a child before
problems interfere with other developmental needs.
16. Myths & Facts
Myth: People with mental health problems are violent and
unpredictable.
Fact: The vast majority of people with mental health problems are
no more likely to be violent than anyone else. Most people with
mental illness are not violent and only 3%–5% of violent acts can be
attributed to individuals living with a serious mental illness. In fact,
people with severe mental illnesses are over 10 times more likely to
be victims of violent crime than the general population. You
probably know someone with a mental health problem and don't
even realize it, because many people with mental health problems
are highly active and productive members of our communities.
17. Myths & Facts
Myth: People with mental health needs, even those who are
managing their mental illness, cannot tolerate the stress of holding
down a job.
Fact: People with mental health problems are just as productive as
other employees. Employers who hire people with mental health
problems report good attendance and punctuality as well as
motivation, good work, and job tenure on par with or greater than
other employees.
When employees with mental health problems receive effective
treatment, it can result in:
Lower total medical costs
Increased productivity
Lower absenteeism
Decreased disability costs
18. Myths & Facts
Myth: Personality weakness or character flaws cause mental health
problems. People with mental health problems can snap out of it if
they try hard enough.
Fact: Mental health problems have nothing to do with being lazy or
weak and many people need help to get better. Many factors
contribute to mental health problems, including:
Biological factors, such as genes, physical illness, injury, or brain
chemistry
Life experiences, such as trauma or a history of abuse
Family history of mental health problems
People with mental health problems can get
better and many recover completely.

Withdrawing from people or activities they would normally enjoy.
Sleeping or eating too much or too little.
Feeling as if nothing matters.
Consistently low energy.
Using drugs more than normal (including alcohol and nicotine).

Confusion.
Not being able to complete standard tasks, such as getting to work or
cooking a meal.
Persistent thoughts or memories that reappear regularly.
Thinking of harming one's self or others.
Hearing voices.
Delusions.
21. Treatment of
Mental Illness
There are various ways people with mental health problems might
receive treatment. It is important to know that what works for one
person may not work for another; this is especially the case with
mental health.
Some strategies or treatments are more successful when combined
with others. A patient with a chronic mental disorder may choose
different options at different stages in their life. The majority of
experts say that a well-informed patient is probably the best judge
of what treatment suits them best.
22. Treatment of
Mental Illness
Psychotherapy (talking therapies) - this is a psychological approach
to treating mental illness.Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT),
exposure therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy are examples.
Medication - although it can not cure mental disorders, some
medications can improve symptoms.
Self-help - including lifestyle changes such as reducing alcohol
intake, sleeping more, and eating well.
