There are two main differences between DNA and RNA: 1) RNA contains the sugar ribose while DNA contains deoxyribose, which lacks one oxygen atom. 2) RNA contains the nucleobase uracil while DNA contains thymine. DNA is double-stranded in a double helix structure, while RNA is usually single-stranded. The sugar in DNA is deoxyribose and RNA contains ribose. Furthermore, DNA uses the bases adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine, while RNA uses adenine, uracil, cytosine and guanine.
