Financial & operational opportunities for disco ms under udaySakshi Saini
What erstwhile was ignored, has now gained pinnacle importance by Government as the future of power sector at large depends upon better financial health and consistent operations of DISCOMS. To ensure this objective Government did attempted FRPs for struggling Discoms in 2013 which tanked due to lack of timely implementation, forcing yet another scheme to turnaround the fate of state owned distribution utilities which has earned the nomenclature as UDAY (Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana). The scheme is touted as the next paladin to bail out the struggling Discoms, potentially could see them turn green in a time horizon of 3-4 years from 2015/16.

One cannot imagine transmission and distribution of electricity without the ubiquitous transformer. Whether it is an extra high-voltage power transformer at the power generating plant or whether a low-voltage one at the local substation, the role of a transformer is integral.

Tariff and Duty of Electricity supply in various State of India-A review by CEAAshish Verma
The Central Electricity Authority- a central autonomous technical planning and regulatory wing under Ministry of Power has released review report on tariff and duties of electricity supply by various distribution companies functioning at various states .
The Report is published for fulfilling the CEA's obligation under section 73(i) and (j) of electricty act 2003 .
Globally internet has changed the way in which businesses were performed traditionally. Developed countries have benefited from implementing e-commerce. But, in case of emerging economies like India the adoption of e-commerce has been very slow due to challenges posed by a number of barriers. In India, though the large corporations have adopted e-commerce and successfully explored the business opportunities, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are yet to benefit from adopting e-commerce. This presentation reflects on the barriers that the SMEs face in India in process of adoption of e-commerce. It analyses both the external and internal factors that affect the adoption of e-commerce. In the end recommendations are also mentioned.
This presentation discusses about Electricity Laws and Regulations. It primarily focuses on India, but a reference to other countries is made at few places.

The report is divided in to two volumes:
Volume I: It comprises of Retail Distribution Supply Tariffs 2014-15 applicable in different states of India. This includes information about Industrial, Commercial, Agricultural and Domestic Charges.
Volume II: The Second Volume will consist of Transmission and Generation Power Tariffs for the year 2014-15 applicable for different transmission and generation companies of India. This volume gives critical information about Wheeling, Cross Subsidy surcharge, Fuel Adjustment Charges, Open Access Charges, Renewable and Cogeneration Charges.
Why enincon‟s report upon “ Power Distribution Tariffs in India 2018”?
With power distribution reforms gained momentum soon after the application of EA 2003 (where it was believed to be coined in mid 90‟s) , Indian power distribution utilities came along way since then. With, introduction of reforms and multiple cognitive steps undoubtedly the power distribution sector stands improved by leaps from the erstwhile levels. Having said that, it indeed still represents the weakest link of the power generation, transmission and distribution chain
A Review of Restructured Power Development and Reform Programme in Indiaijiert bestjournal
The power sector is one of the most important infrastructural aspec ts of the Indian economy. But of late,it has been facing some serious problems such as old worn-out and poor distributi on network leading to frequent outages, skewed tariff structure, huge Transmission & Distribution (T &D) losses largely due to outright theft & unmetered supply, high LT/HT line ratio, overloaded DT/ Lines, lack of accountability at feeder level and in distribution setup of State Electricity Boards (SEBs). Henc e,the Government identified Distribution Reforms as the key area to bring about the efficiency & commerc ial availability into the power sector. The Government took various initiatives in this direction;one of these is the introduction of Accelerated Power Development Programme (APDP) in February,2000. The main objective of thi s programme was to initiate a financial turnaround in the performance of the State owned power sector .

In the entire power value chain, it is power distribution that has most singularities. While power generation and transmission are largely institution-related businesses, it is power distribution that interfaces with the end-consumer. All the commercial losses that are talked about in the power sector originate in power distribution. Even Smart Grid architecture has a bearing on power distribution, much more than power generation or transmission.

In February 2015, the Indian government announced its plans to almost quadruple its renewable power capacity to 175 GW by 2022 as part of the plan to supply electricity to every household in the country. This includes 60 GW from wind energy. Further, India made a commitment at COP21 to raise the share of non-fossil-fuel power capacity in the country’s power mix to 40% by 2030.
Consequently, these plans and targets make the Indian market a unique fast moving and growing market where competitive companies can have great business opportunities. But, they also come with a complex and unstable legal framework where manufacturers find many obstacles on the way.
Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.
The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.
Adjusting OpenMP PageRank : SHORT REPORT / NOTESSubhajit Sahu
For massive graphs that fit in RAM, but not in GPU memory, it is possible to take
advantage of a shared memory system with multiple CPUs, each with multiple cores, to
accelerate pagerank computation. If the NUMA architecture of the system is properly taken
into account with good vertex partitioning, the speedup can be significant. To take steps in
this direction, experiments are conducted to implement pagerank in OpenMP using two
different approaches, uniform and hybrid. The uniform approach runs all primitives required
for pagerank in OpenMP mode (with multiple threads). On the other hand, the hybrid
approach runs certain primitives in sequential mode (i.e., sumAt, multiply).
