The children are the future of this great nation. As such, it is important that adequate attention and consideration is put into ensuring the future of the nation is secured. The growing incidences of child obesity should thus, be considered a threat to the future of the country. One is termed as being obese when they have a body mass percentage that is at and/ or goes over the 95th percentile of the CDC sex specific BMI charts. As a nurse, I feel that there is immediate need to address the matter of childhood obesity and nip it in the bud before it grows and becomes an even more troublesome issue. According to a report released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently, approximately 13.7 million children aged between the ages of 2 and 19 suffered from obesity (CDC, 2018). These numbers are very alarming especially seeing that there is an anticipated increase. The purpose of this paper is to communicate the author’s desire to implement policies in schools that will help manage and eventually reduce the prevalence of obesity in the nation by proposing solutions to the problem.
The Problem of Obesity
The food an individual consumes plays an important role in shaping their health. As such, it is very worrying when children continue to feed on heavily processed foods that are not nutritionally beneficial to them. Child obesity, just like adult obesity, is caused by the consumption of high-calorie foods and beverages that are lacking essential nutrients. This, paired with living a sedentary lifestyle, increases the chances of becoming overweight and eventually, obese (Dawes, 2014).
Obese children have very many health risks including, high cholesterol as well as high blood pressure which makes them susceptible to developing heart conditions, breathing problems such as asthma, joint problems; they may also develop mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. Childhood obesity also negatively impairs the child’s social development and ability to associate properly with their peers. This is due to the feelings of low self-esteem they may develop as a result of being jeered at by other children because of their weight. They become anxious about whether they will be socially accepted by their age mates and conclude that they will not be. As a result, they end up isolating themselves and if this is left unaddressed, they may become depressed (Halfon, Larson & Slasser, 2016). When this children grow up to become adults, they are at risk of even more health problems such as adult obesity which brings with it even more serious health conditions such as risk of developing Diabetes type 2, Heart disease as well as cancer. ABSTRACT: HIV/AIDS education is supposed to not only be a medium of creating awareness but also most importantly promote practices and skills to enable HIV prevention among youth in schools. This article reports on a study whose purpose was to assess the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS education in promoting interventions for a supportive environment in secondary schools. Specifically, the study sought to find out the extent to which interventions for a supportive environment for HIV/AIDS prevention were emphasized to youth; and explore the factors that influenced the promotion of the interventions. The study focused on youth involvement, parental involvement and HIV/AIDS prevention friendly school policies. The findings of the study established that the potential of the youth in enabling HIV/AIDS prevention among their fellow peers was not fully exploited. Parental involvement was low especially among the fathers. Parents rarely engaged in discussions on topics that dealt with sexuality. HIV/AIDS prevention friendly policies were ineffectively promoted in schools. Factors that influenced the promotion of the interventions were explored.

Overview
Sexually Transmitted Diseases are diseases that are transmitted from one person to another during oral, anal and vaginal sexual activities. STDs are very common especially among sexually active teenagers and a number of them don’t have the symptoms making it hard to tell if one has contacted one. STDs are very dangerous to one’s health however, it can be detected when one is tested and majority of them have a cure (Bouchery, Harwood, and Brewer, 2014). STDs are preventable with abstinence and safe sexual practices; one is likely not to contract the disease. Examples of the STDs are: chlamydia, genital warts, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, herpes, HIV and AIDS, Human Papillomavirus, scabies, syphilis and trichomoniais (Stingler, Neusel, and Perry, 2013).
Objectives
1. To help the teenagers understand what STDs are as well as ways one can contract them
2. To teach the teenagers some of the preventive measures of contracting STDs.
3. To educate the teenagers on measures on should take incase exposed to an environment one is likely to contract STDs
4. To help the teenagers differentiate the myths from the facts regarding STDs

Video clips featuring adults and teenage experts, Graphic power point presentations
STD pamphlets, Writing materials: Pens and Plain papers, Teacher’s laptop, overhead screen
Estimated cost: Overhead screen will be offered by the church, additional materials needed about $45-$80
Directions
The learning sessions was grouped into four different sessions lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes. In the first session, it was purely teaching session where I addressed all the objectives in a classroom setting and the teenagers were allowed to take notes. Teaching was enhanced with graphic power points to help create a visual understanding of the different concepts put across. The second session on the other hand was purely audio visual where the teenagers were allowed to view different Video clips featuring adults and teenage experts expounding on sexually, transmitted disease. The audio-visual session also addressed all the objectives just as the case was in the classroom set up in session one.
The third session was an open forum where the teenagers were allowed to ask questions, seek clarification on different issues or add more insight on concept learned. This session was an interactive one where all disturbing questions was addressed. The end of this session was marked by satisfactory response to all questions and insight brought forward by both the teacher and the teenagers.
The fourth and final session was an examination setup where each of the participants were given a quick test to test their understanding for the concepts learnt. Those who performed exemplary were awarded certificates and gifts and the whole were issued pa.

Parenting Styles and Academic Performance of Senior High School StudentsAJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: The district-wide survey study examined the parenting styles and academic performance among
Grade 12 learners in Social Science amidst the CoViD-19 pandemic. The study involved two hundred forty-four
(244) parents as respondents. The study used descriptive research design through survey questionnaires as the
main instrument in gathering the required data. Descriptive and Inferential statistics were employed in the
computation, analysis, and interpretation of data. Results of the study revealed that most parent-respondents are
female, in their middle adulthood, with a minimum family and a number of children. Parents agree on the
parenting styles they do. The mean academic performance of Grade 12 learners in Social Science was "Very
Satisfactory". There was a significant difference in parents' parenting styles as to authoritarian style when
respondents were grouped according to age and family monthly income. There was a significant difference in
parents' parenting styles as to permissive style when respondents were grouped according to age. There was a
significant difference in parents' parenting styles as to authoritative style when respondents were grouped
according to the number of children in the family. There was a very low positive correlation between the
parenting styles of parents and the academic performance of Grade 12 learners in Social Science. Based on the
study's findings, parents may consider exploring appropriate parenting styles to motivate their children, and
parents are encouraged not to spoil their children. Parents are encouraged to attend any PTA meetings to show
support for their children's learning. The parents may consider equally practiced parenting styles as
authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative regardless of their profile. It may be possible to undertake a
comparative study with a bigger sample size of participants from various places to validate and enhance the
generalizability of the results.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

HIV/AIDS education to increase awareness and encourage behavior change among children is needed but should be age appropriate. The appropriate age for many parents was 9 years old; some thought 10 years was appropriate but many said HIV/AIDS education should start at 8 years old. Parents from the survey group, interview group and focus group thought the use of storytelling to explain to children how important it is to learn about tuberculosis and adopt healthy behaviors was inspiring and a good concept to add into a child’s education. Parents said the books were a great supplement for health education classes in schools and for community health fairs. When asked how concerned they were about children being exposed to HIV/AIDS on a scale of 1 to 10, parents from all three groups chose 10 as being very concerned. Parents from all 3 groups responded that the methodology used to educate children about HIV/AIDS will most likely help decrease their chances of infection but will not limit exposure. Perhaps the teaching will help them recognize signs and seek treatment. Parents from the 3 groups said they were teaching their children basic hygiene and basic health safety measures; they were not specific on the type of measures used. Some parents were not doing much in helping kids increase their knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Overall, the results showed that a majority of parents were in favor of a program that will not only increase HIV/AIDS awareness among children, but it will involve parents in teaching their children about HIV/AIDS as well. Children responded that books and curriculum activities will be the method of choice for them because they feel they will learn more by reading books and identifying with the characters than by being told what HIV/AIDS is. Kids Be Aware is a program created to meet the needs of children in schools and in the community to increase their knowledge of HIV/AIDS. The program makes it a mission to teach kids about HIV/AIDS, its methods of transmission and to build knowledge in regard to disease prevention. To promote healthy relationships while teaching healthy behaviors. II-Methods A needs assessment survey, a focus group study and interviews were used to determine the need for early HIV/AIDS education among children in schools and in the community. A storytelling books format, activities and curriculum were presented to the 3 groups of parents. Children ages 9 to 15 years old were interviewed to see if disease awareness through books was something they will favor. The goals and objectives were to found out if parents thought books and activities will: 1) Increase HIV/AIDS awareness 2) Increase knowledge with regard to the spread and prevention of HIV/AIDS 3) Promote better health behaviors and 4) Build healthy relationships among children. III-Results The results shows parents from the survey group agreed there was a need for early HIV/AIDS education. Thus, parents from the focus group found the storytelling format of the HIV/AIDS books, activities and curriculum appropriate for kids 8 to 12 years old. Children thought the storytelling format of the books were a great way to get them interested to learn about HIV/AIDS as they can relate to the character in the story. IV- Conclusion: A program aim to increase HIV/AIDS awareness between the ages of 8 to 12 in schools and in the community is needed.
