In the poem The Iliad, Agamemnon s pride prevents him from being an honorable leader. The
Achaeans take captive two women named Chryseis and Briseis; Agamemnon, the leader of the
Achaean army, takes Chryseis as his prize, and Achilles, the Achaeans greatest warrior, takes Briseis
. When Chryseis father, a priest of Apollo requests Agamemnon to return him his daughter,
Agamemnon refuses, and the priest pleads Apollo, the son of Zeus, to help him. Apollo listens to
the priest s prayers and begins a plague in the Achaean camp which causes many soldiers to die.
Eventually, Agamemnon learns that he has to give up Chryseis for his army to be freed of the
plague, but even after receiving this new information, he grudgingly accepts to send her off in
exchange for Briseis. In this poem, Agamemnon s pride prevents him from being an honorable
leader. Although he wishes to maintain his honor, Agamemnon makes selfish decisions that
negatively impact the Achaean army. Chryseis and Briseis are valued as possessions of pride and
honor.
As a leader, Agamemnon has a reputation which lets him feel superior to the soldiers and people
around him. He shows his superiority when the priest begs him for his daughter and brings
ransom which Agamemnon refuses. And all ranks of Achaeans cried out their assent: Respect the
priest, accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy to the heart of Agamemnon (1.25 27).
Though the Achaean military pleads Agamemnon to accept the priest s offer, Agamemnon is
concerned about himself more than the pleas of his army and justifies that returning Chryseis to

When Benedetto Handel advised Gluck that his works had not pleased the public he traveled to
Paris where he was very much influenced by the operas of Jean Philippe Rameau. From 1755 to
1761 he was in Vienna, where he began reforming operaalong the more dramatic lines suggested in
Marcello s Teatro alla moda. Gluck composed his piece Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762.
In the legend, Orpheus is considered the greatest musician to have ever lived. He was the son of
the God Apollo, the god of the son, music, truth and prophecy. According to the story, Orpheus
wife Euridice was unfortunately bitten by a snake and killed while trying to escape from
Aristaeus, a Shepard, who was overcome by her beauty and was pursuing her through the
woods. When Orpheus learned of Euridice s death he was grief stricken and sang, he sang a
tune so beautiful it deeply touched everything, living and not living, in all the world and the
heavens above. He descended into Hades, and when he played his song, even managed to melt
Hades cold heart. He was told that he told take Euridice, but only on one condition, he could not
look upon her until they were out of the underworld. As foreshadowed, Orpheus could not resist
looking back before they had fully escaped the underworld, and he lost her forever along with
meeting his own death soon after. Both operas replace the tragedy of the original myth with

ABSTRACT
The new series of two new hydrazone derivatives and their vanadium complexes have been
synthesized bearing the formula M[DPDH](BF4)2 and M[DCDH](BF4)2, where M=V, DPDTPH=
(2,6 diacetylpyridine N,N Pyridine 2,6 dicarboxylic acid dihydrazone) and DCDTPH = (2,6
pyridine diacarbonyl di chloride N N Pyridine 2,6 dicarboxylic acid dihydrazone) and
(BF4)=Tetrafluoroborate. The ligand and complexes have been analyzed for elemental analysis,
spectral studies, and conductivity measurements. Different techniques like FT IR, electronic data
were used to investigate the structural features of the synthesized compounds. Electronic absorption
and IR spectra indicate octahedral geometry. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and hydrazone
derivatives and their vanadium complexes against bacteria and fungi shows the complexes have
been found to be manifold active biologically than the ligand.

The Wisdom Of Shelley by George Elliott Clarke is a beautifully written poem with a darker
meaning. There are many interesting things hiding within the poem but there are a few specific
ones I will mention. First, there are many different poetic devices used within this short poem. This
includes imagery, similes, and repetition. Second, the symbol of this poem is the rosewhich is
mentioned a few times throughout the poem. Third, the theme for The Wisdom Of Shelley is
deception. Each of these points contributes to my understanding of the poem in its own way.
There are many poetic devices used throughout The Wisdom Of Shelley . Repetition of words
was the first thing that really jumped out at me. Clarke repeats the words words words words
(4), and loved loved loved (15). What I believe this represents is how the character X only says
empty words to what I presume is his family. If you need to repeat the word loved three times,
then it starts to feel like you are only saying the words to make the other person happy.
The first few lines of the poem say You come down, after / five winters, X, / bristlin with roses (1
3) and this can be taken as X has been gone for five years showing no signs of returning. He
suddenly shows up with roses one day and expects all to be forgotten and forgiven. The presumed
child does not want to forgive him and forget about what happened. This really sets the mood and

Holocaust Concentration Camps The Holocaust nearly made the Jewish population and religion
disappear from the face of the Earth. From January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945; Adolf Hitler,
German politician and leader of the Nazi party, ran the Holocaust all over Germany and Eastern
Europe. Prisoners and victims of the Holocaust include: the majority of the Jewish population,
German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah s Witnesses,
homosexuals, and people accused of socially deviant or socially unacceptable behavior. They
were sent to many different areas that had different purposes. The most used places they were
sent to are called concentration camps. Once they entered the concentration camps, there was no
escaping; those people officially became prisoners. There were 23 main concentration camps and
around 900 sub camps. Concentration camps tricked the Jewish people into coming into them by
offering them a better life on the welcoming signs outside. Some of the main camps had many
different inhumane uses. All of the camps are notorious for their cruel and evil ways of
everything that they did to prisoners, such as the genocide the Holocaust caused (Concentration
Camps, Killing Methods, Jewish Population). A lesser known camp, Westerbork, is located in the
Netherlands. This concentration camp was known as a Transit camp, which meant it wasn t the
end of the line for the prisoners who arrived there. These camps were a temporary accommodation

where families were split up by German Nazi soldiers. Westerbork was used from October 1939
through April 1945. This camp was shut down by Canadian liberation. Westerbork still stands as a

its strengths and weaknesses. Critics rave about this novel and others don t share the same
enthusiasm. McEwan s novel is astonishing and deserves gratitude from its readers according to
The Literary Analyst. Agreeably when the plot is told from a third party it is a fantastic story of
the complexity of one man s life and the madness that happens to him in one 24 hour period. The
novel loses its appeal with the blistered use of detail. McEwan attempts to dazzle his readers with
