POST SURVEY REPORT- BOSCOMBE PIER
AND BEACH.
After surveying the main location of Boscombe Pier on the 22nd October 2015, it has
been identified over all as having a medium risk area to cast and crew and a
medium/ high level of predicted disruption to all production. A large variety of
elements were considered in the survey of both risks and disruption to the
production. Below is a very brief summary of the total level of risks to personnel and
disruption:

1- During the survey of the area early today, large amounts of rubbish (including
glass bottles) were found in our main locations- Boscombe Pier and Beach. The
rubbish- i.e. glass bottles and burnt wood can be a potential hazard to the cast and
crew during production. Everyone- including myself, should be made aware of these
hazards prior to filming, through a pre-filming meeting. As well as glass bottle, large
amounts of open metal cans have also been identified in the filming area, this can
again cause serious harm and all cast and crew should be made aware of this. If any
new hazards are found, these should be reported to the director immediately. As
well as manmade hazards, nature is still considered a risk in disruption and to
health. In the general area, there is the risk of strong currents which could lead to
the potential drowning of even able swimmers.

Also, there are a lot of washed up sea plants and seaweed that can lead to damage
and skin irritation, these should be avoided completely and SHOULD NOT be handled
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
2- While surveying the area at the time, it was quite quiet in Zones A and B and
there wasn't a large amount of people. This could be down to the fact the weather is
turning and the children are at school while the parents are working. Though in the
first couple of minutes, there was a small surge in both zones when a local group of
dog walkers past by. Weekends and evenings are not recommended to film due to
the public activity rising.
3- The public is one of the most important elements of this survey. During the survey
of the area, there were members of the public walking through the pier and beach
regularly. This is important to think about before filming in this location. If the public
oblige to filming, this can result in a lot of trouble. The best option would be to ask
the local government office for permission to film in the area- including the locals.
4- The terrain of the whole location varies, 60% of the terrain is quite flat while 10%
is uneven (sand) and the remaining 70% being the water. If it rains the night before,
be wary of the ground as it maybe slippery.
5- Weather is the local area often changes, it is not continuous for more than 4 days
maximum in the Bournemouth area. Generally, this part of the UK is quiet windy
during the autumn and it is very rainy. Assessing previous weathers, rain is most
likely to occur with snow being less likely to occur. This year's weather has been
quiet unpredictable and snow won't be ruled out at this time of the year. Overall,
the main concerns are that it will rain and it will be extremely cold around the time
we want to film, to tackle this; a production meeting will occur to go over details
about the weather and what to wear.
6- Wildlife is a minor concern but will still be monitored. During today, a large
amount of jellyfish were washed up on the beach- these can cause panic and

disruption to certain staff members as well as pain if handled. As well as jellyfish,
domestic dogs can be a very high risk. All cast and camera crew should be made
vigilant.
Summary:
Overall, this will definitely be a challenge, timing and planning is the key in being
successful. To be safe, it is advised to find a backup location in the local area to
compensate. Weather will be a large disruptor, again, assessing previous weather
patterns and forecasts will definitely give us the initiative so we can plan our time
efficiently.
