Patient positioning involves moving a patient into specific postures or positions for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. There are several common positions, including the supine position where the patient lies on their back with their head and shoulders slightly elevated, the prone position where the patient lies flat on their abdomen with their head turned to one side, and the lateral position where the patient lies on their left or right side with most of their body weight on the dependent hip and shoulders.
