Dyslexia is a difficulty with reading or writing that makes it hard for people to see words as meaningful shapes or distinguish between letters. There are several types including surface dyslexia, phonological dyslexia, and double deficit dyslexia. Dyslexia is caused by defects in areas of the brain and can be genetic. Parents should have their child examined if they have trouble reading by age 7 or 8. Dyslexia is diagnosed through examinations of senses, psychology, and reading/writing skills. - 2. THE 5 POOR LISTENING STYLES 1) Spacing out 2) Pretend listening 3) Selective listening 4) Word listening 5) Self- centered listening
- 3. SPACING OUT Spacing out is when someone is talking to us but we ignore them because our minds are in a different universe. For example this is supposed to be in class taking notes and paying attention but her mind is on other things.
- 4. PRETEND LISTENING Pretend listening is when someone is talking to you and you answer with phrases such as “Cool” , “Yeah” , and “Awesome”. For example this kid is on his phone probably texting someone and nodding along with the class.
- 5. SELECTIVE LISTENING When someone is trying to tell you something but you only hear a word or two that interest you. For example these kids don’t listen when their parents tell them to clean but listen when candy is involved.
- 6. WORD LISTENING When you pay attention to the words someone is saying, but you only hear the words they say and not the body language. For example the brunette is listening to the blond but she’s not looking at her or paying attention to her body language
- 7. JUDGING Judging is when you hear someone talking but your judging them by how they are. For example these people are being judged by their looks but their the opposite.
- 8. PROBING Probing is when you are interrogating someone or being interrogated and they are trying to dig up emotions before they’re ready to be told. For example this mom is trying to ask her child some questions, but the girl doesn’t want too be asked questions she wants to be left alone.
- 9. ADVISING Advising is when you are listening to someone but your telling them what too do about the situation. For example these parents are trying to give their daughter advice but there not really listening to her so she’s getting annoyed.
