Polystyrene is a vinyl polymer produced through free radical vinyl polymerization of the monomer styrene. It has a long hydrocarbon chain with a phenyl group attached to every other carbon atom. Polystyrene is a thermoplastic material with viscoelastic properties that is an electrical insulator with a glass transition temperature between 90-110 °C and is used in applications such as electrical, electronic, automotive, industrial films, and food packaging.
