Gerry Conway will walk you through a project using a simple compliance tool, COMcheck, by which designers may determine effective R or U values and perform simple trade-offs. The trade-offs may be used to increase the allowable glazing above the 40% threshold. COMcheck is free, has the latest version of SB-10 built in, promotes collaboration with others on the project team through a web-based user interface and is well documented. With it the user may prepare a standalone compliance report for the building envelope or a complete building report covering all disciplines. COMcheck compliance reports are acceptable to ASHRAE and most authorities.
Gerry is an Ottawa based Architect whose practice is focused on building science, technology, codes, standards, practice tools, quality assurance and building envelope/energy performance. He fervently believes in a holistic approach to Architecture where beauty, utility and technology are harmoniously synthesized.
