ABOUT PROJECT
Kochi Metro is a proposed rapid transit system for the
city of Kochi in Kerala, India. The 25.65km metro line
will run from Aluva to Petta and will include 22
stations.
The $950m project will be operated by Kochi Metro
Rail Ltd. (KMRL), a joint venture between the Central
and State governments of India.
COST OF PROJECT
• The total cost of Kochi metro project is Rs. 5,181.79 crore (US$
943.09 million)
• Central government – Rs. 1,002.23 crore (US$ 182.41 million)
• State government – Rs. 1,772.23 crore (US$ 322.55 million)
• Japan international cooperation agency (JICA) – Rs. 2,174 crore
(US$ 395.67 million)
• JICA has agreed to offer loan at 1.50% interest rate
• Cost Allocated For Construction of Stations Is 220Cr. ( way side
civil A )

WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE
• Main steps involves in station construction project are
• 1. Road winding, barricading and temporary street lighting.
• 2. Piling
• 3. Pile caps
• 4. Construction of main column (stage1)
• 5. Longitudinal and precast beam
• 6. Construction of main column (stage2)
• 7. Construction of Transvers Beam
• 8. RCC work for Track Slab
• 9. Construction of Outer Column up to Platform Beam
• 10. Erection of Roof
• 11. Finishing.

• Political Agenda – Due to differences between the ruling party of
state and Centre there is an obvious delay in the project.
• Unavailability of Fund – The project requires very high funding of RS
63000 cr. and due to the delays, the investors are getting cold feet
some have even withdrawn from the project.
Recommendations
• It is recommended to construct Metro Stations Near
Beaches so it would be benefitted for tourist also.
• A series of meetings/discussions/presentations
happened with Railways and GOK authorities.
• Government should keep in check regarding
environmental effect.
• The concerned department must speed up the work
of as the more delay will cost more.
Conclusion
• According to the DPR and our study, the building of the
25.65 km long Metro Rail corridor is technically and
economically viable.
• This plan is a cost-effective transportation option for the
state of Kerala that would provide significant advantages
to the people.
• This Project will result in overall rapid development of
the State's economy due to the synergistic development
of all communities en-route.
• All of this, however, is only possible if the phase 2 and 3
is finished within the projected time and cost.

COST OF PROJECT • The total cost of Kochi metro project is Rs. 5,181.79 crore (US$ 943.09 million) • Central government – Rs. 1,002.23 crore (US$ 182.41 million) • State government – Rs. 1,772.23 crore (US$ 322.55 million) • Japan international cooperation agency (JICA) – Rs. 2,174 crore (US$ 395.67 million) • JICA has agreed to offer loan at 1.50% interest rate • Cost Allocated For Construction of Stations Is 220Cr. Risk associated with project • Timing delays • Weather risk • Grid connection delays • Staff and equipment availability • Transportation • Ground conditions • Environmental or health and safety incidents • Public protests • Covid-19 Pandemic • Political Agenda – Due to differences between the ruling party of state and Centre there is an obvious delay in the project. • Unavailability of Fund – The project requires very high funding of RS 63000 cr. and due to the delays, the investors are getting cold feet some have even withdrawn from the project.

Recommendations • It is recommended to construct Metro Stations Near Beaches so it would be benefitted for tourist also. • A series of meetings/discussions/presentations happened with Railways and GOK authorities. • Government should keep in check regarding environmental effect. • The concerned department must speed up the work of as the more delay will cost more.

Conclusion • According to the DPR and our study, the building of the 25.65 km long Metro Rail corridor is technically and economically viable. • This plan is a cost-effective transportation option for the state of Kerala that would provide significant advantages to the people. • This Project will result in overall rapid development of the State's economy due to the synergistic development of all communities en-route. • All of this, however, is only possible if the phase 2 and 3 is finished within the projected time and cost.
