Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
Best practices for project execution and deliveryCLIVE MINCHIN
A select set of project management best practices to keep your project on-track, on-cost and aligned to scope. Many firms have don't have the necessary skills, diligence, methods and oversight of their projects; this leads to slippage, higher costs and longer timeframes. Often firms have a history of projects that simply failed to move the needle. These best practices will help your firm avoid these pitfalls but they require fortitude to apply.

talksabouttheimportanceofmasterbatches
and their contribution to the industry despite
being price sensitive products; in dialogue with
POLYMERS Communiqué.
Q. As with other segments, masterbatches
and compounds continue to be very price
sensitive products. What according to you
are the value additions that manufacturers,
like you, can offer to customers?
In general, it is true that masterbatches and
compounds are price sensitive products. However,
there are speciality, customised and value-added
Phthalate free compounds are other examples of
niche value-added products.
Q. What role have exports played or can play
for masterbatch manufacturers as you?
Exports have helped manufacturers like us to look
at the latest trends in the global arena. Exports not
only add to the markets available, but also help
in the extension of prevailing product-mix, more
quality awareness, bettering the supply chain from
production to distant global customers.
Q. Having served the industry for
decades now, how do you see
the growth of the Indian plastics
industry when compared to the
global markets?
As it is well known, India was a late starter
in the growth of plastics. The scenario
totally changed in the 90s on the opening
of Indian economy. Large scale domestic
production of polymers gave an added
push to growth.
The present consumption level of 10 mn
MT is expected to go up to 20 mn MT by
2020. Low per capita consumption offers
very good potential for speedy growth.
Sectors like automobiles, consumer goods,
infrastructure, irrigation etc. will super
head the growth.
The global scenario is pointing out
a reshuffle due to US shale gas push,
pressure on West Asia and Europe.
Our industry has to come to terms with
general perception of plastics as a low
value product. The processing industry
requires more upscaling and consolidation.
Push in exports of value-added products
is another desirable action on the part of
the industry.
Q.Innovationinaproductoreconomics
of scale, which do you think is a
model of the future and why?
In fact, both are two sides of the same
coin. Innovation adds to the brand value,
enlargement of product mix and enhanced
quality, whereas economy of scale is needed
to stay competitive and have access to the
latest machinery and processes.
Q. Please update the readers on the
latest developments at Welset.
Highlights of the latest developments at
Welset include:
l Capacity-rationalisationandexpansion.
l Focused manufacturing capacity in
terms of separate modernised plants
for masterbatches, poly-modifiers, PVC
and black masterbatches.
l Re-engineered cost effective
masterbatches for different
applications.
l High-end PVC masterbatches for the
wire and cable industry.
MASTERBATCHES:
ADDING VALUE
TO THE INDUSTRY
masterbatches and compounds which are not so
price sensitive and competitive.
Pearlisedandmetallisedmasterbatchesareexamples
of high-end masterbatches. Fluorescents and
night glow masterbatches used for identification
are examples of added functionality. Similarly,
masterbatches used in medical and healthcare
applications provide high value to products.
Apart from the main functions, masterbatches
can contribute to properties of the polymer like
good fastness to light and weathering, improved
feel and better pellet forms.
Consistency in quality and prompt supply chain
are very important value enhancers.
In compounds, one can mention medical PVC grade
compounds, meeting the global requirements of
FDA, European and US pharmacopoeia. These
grades are manufactured in a GMP environment
meeting stringent quality requirements.

Increased Middle East
Supply Set to Hit Indian PE
I
ndian polyethylene (PE) market
share is likely to soon see increased
supply from the Middle East. The
addition to volumes will emerge at a
time of weak demand following the
drop in crude oil prices.
UAE’s Borouge will be pushing
product from its new complex which
includes High Density PE (HDPE)
and Linear Low Density PE (LLDPE)
units with a combined capacity of
1.08 m tonnes/year and a
350,000 tonne/year Low Density PE
(LDPE) unit.
Increased competition from the
Middle East is expected to push
Indian suppliers to lower their
prices in tandem with softer
import offers.
Tracking the fall in crude prices, HDPE
film prices in India fell by 26% from
August, 2014 to January this year.
Crude oil prices have lost more than
half their values since June last year
due to oversupply concerns.
Meanwhile,Indianprocessorsarealso
concerned about the weak demand
in the key China market. In 2014,
China’s economy grew at its slowest
pace in 24 years led by a cooling real
estate sector and burgeoning local
Government debts.

mi2 Evolution from Goettfert
The re-discovery of the Melt Indexing Testing! Flexible,
compatible and systematic, explained here is the
step by step guide of the evolution of the melt index
measurement from the simplest starter model mi2.1 up
to the top end well equipped half-automated mi2.3.
The .1 comes as a manually operated unit for quick
goods incoming inspection, the .2 with automatic test
load lifting for comfortable measuring and the .3 with
a simple multi-weight selection.
Beside the numerous well known options for the
optimal customising of the mi2.2 and mi2.3, the
new elaborated feature, ‘Defined starting
position’ can be selected additionally. This
adjustment simplifies the already easy
way of determining measurements by a
pre-defined position between 45 and
100 mm in front of the die, where
the test load is kept back during the
melting time.
The advantages are
obviously: Measurements
are manually adjustable;
they always start at the
same position, which
results always in same
testing conditions. This
procedure increases
the reproducibility and
reduces the influence of
the operator, an essential
option when it is required to improve accuracy and
quality.
The Goettfert sales team will be pleased to get in contact
with you personally at the Plastindia show 2015 in
Gandhinagar at Booth 8-A06.

In the Nu-Vu Conair Pvt. Ltd.
dehumidifying wheel dryer,
the molecular sieves film is
crystallised on a glass fibre
substrate forming a rotating
wheel. The structure is like
a honeycomb. Thousands
of small air channels allow
process and regeneration air
to flow past the dessicant.
While most of the wheel
is used to dry the process
air, the rest undergoes high
temperature regeneration
and cooling. As this is a
continuously rotating wheel,
these dryers are able to
achieve consistent low dew
point without any spike.
Also, these dryers requir low
regeneration temperature as
there are no binders used
and only molecular sieves
need to be regenerated.
Nu-Vu Conair make a Dehumidifying Wheel Dryer
These dryers also have
fewer rotating/moving parts
and offer the following
advantages:
l Consistent dew point
– no spikes.
l 33 per cent less energy
compare to twin tower
dryer.
l Quick start - as dew
point is achieved in
five minutes.
l Selectable dew point
control and monitor.
l Lower regeneration
temperature.
l Drying hopper are
designed for mass

When it comes to energy consumption, less
is always better. Better for your profit margin,
and better for keeping our planet green and
healthy. For many years, Nissei ASB Machine Co.,
Ltd. has been developing its range of injection
stretch blow molding machines with greater and
greater efficiency in mind.
Now a quantum leap has occurred with the
introduction of incredibly efficient and low noise
servo driven hydraulic pumps systems.
Shifting from simple fixed displacement hydraulic
pumps, to induction motor driven variable
displacement pumps gave energy savings of up
to 40% for the same productivity, and now with
ASB’s introduction of servo driven hydraulics, an
additional 40% power saving can be realized
over variable displacement pumps.
What makes a servo driven hydraulic system
special is that, unlike induction motors that
always rotate at the same speed, a servo motor
can reduce its speed or even be commanded to
stop completely at times in the molding cycle
when no oil is demanded. The resulting energy
consumption figures closely rival all-electric
machines, but at a fraction of the manufacturing
cost and far lower maintenance due to their
much simpler construction.
The ASB-12M was launched in late 2012, an
all-new, highly capable machine with twin servo
driven hydraulic pumps. Next, in early 2014 ASB
added their popular entry level ASB-50MB to
their stable of servo driven machines. Then, in
late 2014, ASB announced the hugely versatile
ASB-70DPH is now available with optional servo
driven hydraulics.
Together, these three models dominate sales of
all ISBM machines in India and are now set to
dramatically increase user’s profit margins while
protecting our planet’s precious resources.

Q. What do you see as the impact of shale
gas on the polymer market?
Shale gas, being used as the feedstock for cracking
in North America and Canada will result in
incremental availability of ethylene at competitive
prices, which inter-alia would lead to significant
availability of polyethylenes, in particular. Thus,
in the near future, PE from shale gas cracking
would impact the market in a large way. However,
polypropylene may not have that much of an
impact given the lower availability of propylene
from shale gas cracking and its conversion to PP,
which may not be as competitive in the global
market.
Q. Do you see any market advantages of
getting into niche and speciality segments
in the petrochemicals space? What
according t o you are good opportunities?
Niche and speciality segments in the petrochemical
segments have, by and large, not been focused
on and as such, these markets pose a lot of
opportunities for growth. The domestic market
has seen imports of such niche products in a
large way due to inadequate availability of such
grades. The polymer producers need to target
moving into these niche grades, primarily for
usage in the automobile segment, masterbatches,
compounding etc. In addition, some speciality
segments are not being given due consideration
which possess high potential growth viz.
agricultural / plasticulture / irrigation (in the form
of drip laterals, mulch films, canal lining etc.),
geosynthetics and packaging.
Q. How do you see Plastindia 2015 as a
platform for industrial growth?
Plastindia is the third largest platform for plastics
exhibitionincludinginter-aliarawmaterialsuppliers,
processors, traders, equipment manufacturers
etc. showcasing their respective strengths. The
customers including international ones visiting
Plastindia 2015 will have the opportunity to
interact with different stakeholders present in the
plastics industry and plan for future growth. Thus,
this type of forum always has the exciting and
encouraging presence of various stakeholders.
Q. For the benefit of our readers, can you
please update us on the existing capacity
of polymer units that IOCL runs and also
the planned expansions?
The petrochemical business is also seeing a lot of transformation and
growth based on global trends. Siddharth Mitra, Executive Director
(Petrochemicals), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. sheds some light on the
impact of shale gas on the polymer business among other things.
Need for Niche Segments in Petrochemicals
Siddharth Mitra, Executive Director
(Petrochemicals), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
The polymer complex of IOCL at Panipat consists
of four lines as mentioned:
l Swing Unit of 350 KTA capacity
l Dedicated HDPE of 300 KTA capacity
l Two lines of PP Unit of 300 KTA
capacity, each
Currently, we are implementing two new lines of PP
Unit at Paradip refinery, each of 350 KTA capacity,
totalling to 700 KTA. In addition, we are examining
the feasibility of expansion of the existing Naphtha
Cracker Unit at Panipat and based on the initial
study, incremental ethylene generation could be
300 KTA and that of propylene generation at
150 KTA. However, utilisation of the same and the
configuration is currently being firmed up.
