Digital Graphic Narrative Planning
Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You
should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that
context rather than just as a college project.
Costs: Adobe monthly subscription (£14)
Available resources: MSI GS70 PRO (LAPTOP) APPLE MAC (PC)
Quantity: The amount of copies that I shall aim to be printing
If this product was going to be entering the consumer market, I would aim to be printing tens of thousands of
copies. But if the book was successful I would aim for the book to be printed in the hundreds of thousands so
that it could meet popular demand.
Audience and Target Market: Boy and girls (5 - 7 years of age) this is due to the fact that the themes that
are going to be conveyed in my book are going to be suitable for children is this age range due to the fact that
there are going to be no / a lack there of violence. This is due to the fact that any theme that could be
considered to have violent incentives are going to be convey in a comical format that could be understood by
children of this age.
Quality Factors: Quality factors that I should ensure is that the language that is used in the book is suitable
for children in the age range that I have chosen. Another factor that I have to consider is that the illustrations
that I have created are clear and understandable, this is due to the fact that the target audience will have to
understand what actions are taking place in the illustrations.
Codes of Practice:
I shall make my book by my set date, I shall also make sure that the book has been finalised in the points that
I have spell checked the work and made sure that there are no issues with my work.
Regulation:
I shall make sure that my work follows the toy safety directive 2009/48/EC, this is due to the fact that my book
is classified as a toy. Therefor to ensure that I can sell my book on the European market I will have to follow
these guide lines in order to do this.
I may also have to follow the equality act 2010, this will mean that to some extenct my book has to be easy to
read and visually simple. This is so that the book will still be understandable for people with reading/learning
disabilities.
The Obscene Publications Act 1959 will also be clearly followed; this will mean that there will be nothing that
is in my book that could be deemed as being ‘depraved’ or ‘corrupt’, this will mean there will be no acts that
are committed or implied in my book that might suggest this.
Copyright:
Due to the fact that I have followed the same story line of the 3 little pigs I have adapted the classic story line,
this is so that it does not fall within the copyright law, I could also get permission from the people whom own
the copyright so that I can use features that are in their work. Due to the fact that this book is over 70 years
old I should be able to use this book without any issues.
Ethical Issues:
Ethical issues can include many different factors that can possibly affect many different cultures who might
read my book. Some major points that I should not include are religious symbols (such as swastikas) and
offensive words and gestures that might cause offence.
Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which
you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.
Resource:
Do you have
it? What do you need to do to get it?
Adobe Photoshop Y
I shall be using this primarily at college, but if I was to use it at
home I might need to download at home.
Microsoft word Y I have access to word at college.
Microsoft PowerPoint Y I have access to power point at college.
PC / mac Y
I have access to both macs and pcs at college. I also have
access to a laptop at home.
The internet Y Connect to Wi-Fi.
Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in
to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will
also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work
faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.
Each session is a half day of college.
Session 1:
I shall start developing many key aspects of my book, these aspects will include basic character
creation and background creation.
Session 2:
I shall develop upon the current characters that I have created, if any characters have not been created
to a basic standard this shall be my first priority.
Session 3:
I shall continue to develop any characters that have not yet been completed to a standard that I feel fit.
If I manage to complete my character development, then I shall progress to develop upon my completed
backgrounds, this shall include adding shades and shadows to depict a more realistic location.
Session 4:
If I have not completed development on my backgrounds, then I shall continue to finish them.
Upon my backgrounds being completed I shall work on creating the font that I shall be using in my
book.
Session 5:
Then I shall work on creating props that shall be used by the characters in the story.
After I have created a basic set of props I shall then continue to develop multiple detailed copies.
Session 6:
If I have not completed my props, then I shall work on completing them and making sure that they meet
a satisfactory standard.
If the props that I have created do not meet a satisfactory standard, then I shall continue to work on
them until I see fit.
I shall then begin to compile my pages.
Session 7:
Compile assets to create the desired pages.
Session 8:
Continue to compile assets to create the desired pages.
Session 9:
Continue to compile assets to create the desired pages.
Session 10:
Finish any assets that I have not completed, and compile them into the document. Then send them to
be assessed.
Health and safety:
Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from
working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and
spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life.
Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from
happening.
Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work.
Health and Safety Issue How can you prevent it?
Overheating
From the experience that I have had with handling macs
they are prone to overheating. Due to this they are prone to
crashing as a result of the heat. In come rare occurrences
they become so hot that they can inflict pain when they are
under heavy loads. The only solution that I can consider is
to not use one and use my laptop instead.
Tripping up
Tripping is a possible hazard so placing my bag under my
chair should help prevent this

Copyright: Due to the fact that I have followed the same story line of the 3 little pigs I have adapted the classic story line, this is so that it does not fall within the copyright law, I could also get permission from the people whom own the copyright so that I can use features that are in their work. Due to the fact that this book is over 70 years old I should be able to use this book without any issues. Ethical Issues: Ethical issues can include many different factors that can possibly affect many different cultures who might read my book. Some major points that I should not include are religious symbols (such as swastikas) and offensive words and gestures that might cause offence. Resources:
  • 4. A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project. If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production. Resource: Do you have it? What do you need to do to get it? Adobe Photoshop Y I shall be using this primarily at college, but if I was to use it at home I might need to download at home. Microsoft word Y I have access to word at college. Microsoft PowerPoint Y I have access to power point at college. PC / mac Y I have access to both macs and pcs at college. I also have access to a laptop at home. The internet Y Connect to Wi-Fi. Production Schedule: Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are. Each session is a half day of college. Session 1:
  • 5. I shall start developing many key aspects of my book, these aspects will include basic character creation and background creation. Session 2: I shall develop upon the current characters that I have created, if any characters have not been created to a basic standard this shall be my first priority. Session 3: I shall continue to develop any characters that have not yet been completed to a standard that I feel fit. If I manage to complete my character development, then I shall progress to develop upon my completed backgrounds, this shall include adding shades and shadows to depict a more realistic location. Session 4: If I have not completed development on my backgrounds, then I shall continue to finish them. Upon my backgrounds being completed I shall work on creating the font that I shall be using in my book. Session 5:
  • 6. Then I shall work on creating props that shall be used by the characters in the story. After I have created a basic set of props I shall then continue to develop multiple detailed copies. Session 6: If I have not completed my props, then I shall work on completing them and making sure that they meet a satisfactory standard. If the props that I have created do not meet a satisfactory standard, then I shall continue to work on them until I see fit. I shall then begin to compile my pages. Session 7: Compile assets to create the desired pages. Session 8: Continue to compile assets to create the desired pages. Session 9:
  • 7. Continue to compile assets to create the desired pages. Session 10: Finish any assets that I have not completed, and compile them into the document. Then send them to be assessed. Health and safety: Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life. Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from happening. Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work. Health and Safety Issue How can you prevent it? Overheating From the experience that I have had with handling macs they are prone to overheating. Due to this they are prone to crashing as a result of the heat. In come rare occurrences they become so hot that they can inflict pain when they are under heavy loads. The only solution that I can consider is to not use one and use my laptop instead.
  • 8. Tripping up Tripping is a possible hazard so placing my bag under my chair should help prevent this
