INTRODUCTION
 The placement service is designed to enhance student development by assisting them to select
and use opportunities inside and outside the school.
 It is oriented to the preparation of an individual for admission to other educational, vocational
or work related program.
 Its main purpose is to assist students to achieve their career goals. For e.g. by assisting them
with subject selection or placement in a class or school, based on subject offered.
 As a service, it strengthens the career guidance aspect of school guidance and counselling
program.
 It helps the student to know their strength and limitation and through this students achieve
self-direction.
 This service offers the counselor an opportunity to collect, analyze and use , a variety of
personal, psychology and social data about the students. Not only it offer the counselor an
opportunity to understand the pupils, but it also provides them with a guideline for the type
of help required.
DEFINATION
 PLACEMENT SERVICE
Means helping a person to get an appropriate place according to his qualification and
abilities, thus enabling him to get absorbed successfully in any occupation.

Placement is a service within a guidance program which is designed to assist students in
the selection of suitable courses or curricula, extra-class activities and part –time or full time
employment or appropriate career choices and skills.
 Two things are important in placement:
1. ABILITY FOR THE TASK
2. SATISFACTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL.
Types of placement services
1. Educational placement
2. Vocational placement
3. Personal placement
Educational placement service
 Placement service provide assistance or helps to get themselves admitted in the
school they are most fit for.
 It provide right kind of courses of studies to pursue.
 Educational placement service provide right of curricular activities they like to take
part in and provide sports they like to play so they have overall growth and
development.
Vocational placement service
 This service is meant for the persons who joins the jobs.
 The service helps the persons find right kind of job that should be to their liking.
 Helps student in finding their appropriate place in the occupational field.
 Helps the pupils who work, earn and learn.
 It take them part time job they can do that should not take all the time they have. To
work is a means for them zand to learn is the end they seek to achieve.
Personal guidance service
 In this type of guidance placement service renders assistance to pupils to find
themselves rightly placed at home ,in the school and in the society as a whole.
 They have right type of company of friends and have a place in their peer group.
 They have friendly atmosphere all around them and they are likely by parents and
carry with their sibling very well.
 Pupils get recognition from their teachers.
 The pupil find themselves to the place where they can perform to the best of their
ability and capacity.
Functions of placement service
1) It fits the right person in the right job and thus contributes to solve the problem
of “square pegs in square holes and round pegs in round holes.”
2) Its assist to minimize the percentage of drop_outs in school by placing student in
the right type of educational institution or courses.
3) Its helps in proper utilization of human resources and thus contribute to better
productivity and vocational efficiency.
4) It minimize the burden of the employment exchange and the employer to get
right type of personnel for various job.
5) It assists students to chose the institution or subject according to their interest
and abilities and solve the problem of academic frustation and aimlessness.
Factors affecting the placement service
The effective development of the placement service depends upon several factors
some of which are:
 The philosophy of staff members towards the service.
 Personnel available to coordinate them necessary activities.
 Clerical assistance and material.
CONCLUSION
Placement service in all the three type of guidance in schools assists:
 The pupils to be in the best of their for.
 At home, they are loving children to their parents to whom they pay their due
regards.
 In school they do well in studies.
 They have best in their adjustment with their friend and teachers.
 In society they find themselves well placed in all kind of activities that go on day
in day out.
Hence placement service brings overall the best in pupils life as a whole
if they receive counseling properly.
