A deep dive into the history of containers as well as an introduction to how they work under the covers. This includes a discussion around Control Groups and Process Namespaces, as well as touching on some underlying syscalls, such as Fork and Clone.

While we ported OpenVZ from RHEL6 (2.6.32) to RHEL7 (3.10) kernel, we discovered what pieces needed for OpenVZ are still missing from the upstream kernel.

(auto)Installing BSD Systems
The auto-installation methods you can use to set BSD operating systems up and running
-----
After more than a decade in touch with systems like FreeBSD, not by just consuming them as an end-user but also by working as a sysadmin or by developing 'BSD Powered' solutions, you might fall into pitfalls by not easily finding a way to fully automate their installations. The good news: it's possible and it's not as complicated as you might think!
Today's needs regarding automating things like an O.S. installation can save you a lot of time; Kickstart or Preseed files are not the only ways of doing it. One can even combine or expand it all to add patching and updating routines into the game.
Here we are not talking about a one-click solution or something like querying an API endpoint to provide you with a shiny virtual machine; no. The main idea behind this talk is to present you with a tool-set and ways of (auto)installing your machines, let's say, using a NetBSD operating system; be it virtual, or not.
Inspired by talks like the ones showing how OpenBSD Amsterdam sets its virtual machines up, we get together and share thoughts, ideas and setups to get DHCP, iPXE and diskless systems in our favor to set our infrastructure up and running.
Concerned about the first boot and keeping up with services' configurations and consistencies, we also talk about getting Puppet to watch it for you. Considering plain text passwords no one wishes to host in a Git repository, EYAML to the rescue!

A talk about the brief history of container runtimes.
Presented as part of the Huntsville Docker User Group.
This talk is geared for anyone interested in figuring out how libcontainer, lxc, runc, containerd, docker, and CRI-O all fit together.
What is a container? Is it really a “lightweight VM” or is it more like a Linux process? In this talk you'll see exactly what a container is, as Liz builds one from scratch in a few lines of Go code. You'll learn how namespaces, control groups and chroot are used to construct containers, and how they are isolated from each other and from the host machine they run on.

Charles Macfarlane, Chief Business Officer at Codeplay Software, presents the “New, Open-standards-based, Open-source Programming Model for All Accelerators” tutorial at the May 2023 Embedded Vision Summit.
As demand for AI grows, developers are attempting to squeeze more and more performance from accelerators. Ideally, developers would choose the accelerators best suited to their applications. Unfortunately, today many developers are locked into limited hardware choices because they use proprietary programming models like NVIDIA’s CUDA. The oneAPI project was launched to create an open specification and open-source software that enables developers to write software using standard C++ code and deploy to GPUs from multiple vendors.
OneAPI is an open-source ecosystem based on the Khronos open-standard SYCL with libraries for enabling AI and HPC applications. OneAPI-enabled software is currently deployed on numerous supercomputers, with plans to extend into other market segments. OneAPI is evolving rapidly and the whole community of hardware and software developers is invited to contribute. In this presentation, Macfarlane introduces how oneAPI enables developers to write multi-target software and highlights opportunities for developers to contribute to making oneAPI available for all accelerators.

0x01 - Newton's Third Law: Static vs. Dynamic AbusersOWASP Beja
f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.
