➢1.Origin of the Concept
Believed that many of us had experience of fish farming, and we used to
breed the fishes in fish tanks as a part of fabulous decorations to our
home. However, it seems quite not an easy thing to breed the fishes if we
want to take good care of them for a long period. Breeding fishes takes a
lot efforts on many aspects as you may imagine, such as buying food
pellets and water plants, cleaning the tanks and filters, installing water
pumps and thermostats, and so on. The most important thing we should
not forget while breeding is to keep the water they live clean and fresh!
Take my tragic experience for instance, one time I failed to install the
water pump accurately, causing the fishes died because of oxygen deficit.
Worst of all, the dead fishes polluted the water, making the environment
stinky, smelly and disgusting. In addition, it seemed that the money I
spent on buying equipments for breeding were all in vain. Unfamiliar to
the oxygen level in the water, unsure for the temperature of the water, and
I believed there are many other factors which made breeding fishes
become a series of complicated process; as a result, not just me, I
believed everyone would gradually lose passion on breeding fishes.

environmental problems
and habitat crisis
A. Water pollution
If owners chose to abandon the fishes in the river or
the lake, it might put the fishes in danger, or on the
contrary, the fishes might reproduce in an amazing
speed which threaten the original habitat and lead to
severe environment crisis, such as the destruction of
food chain system. When the nightmare came true,
the dead creatures will definitely pollute the water.
Discover the difficulty of
breeding and the
vulnerability of the
creature
B. Changing Ecosystem (Examples)
➔ Caulerpa taxifolia
Caulerpa is a specific strain of this alga thrived in cold aquarium environments. Selective
breeding under exposure to both chemicals and ultra-violet light produced even hardier
Caulerpa strains. When it eventually found its way into the Mediterranean, widespread
concern developed that the plant threatened to alter the entire ecosystem by crowding
out native seaweed while being inedible to animals.
➔ Carp(Cyprinus carpio) &、Tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus)
In absence of natural predators or commercial fishing, carp may extensively alter their environments
due to their reproductive rate and their feeding habit of grubbing through bottom sediments for food.
In feeding, they may destroy, uproot, disturb and eat submerged vegetation, causing serious
damage to native duck, such ascanvasbacks, and fish populations.
Tilapias have been of major importance in artisan fishing in Africa and the Middle East, and they are
of increasing importance in aquaculture and aquaponics. Tilapia can become problematic invasive
species in new warm-water habitats such asAustralia, whether deliberately or accidentally
introduced, but generally not in temperate climates due to their inability to survive in cold water.
➔Mosquitofish
Mosquitofish were intentionally introduced in many areas with large mosquito populations to decrease the
population of mosquitoes by eating the mosquito larvae. However, most introductions were ill-advised; in
most cases native fish had already proven to supply maximal control of mosquito population and
introducing mosquitofish has been more harmful to indigenous aquatic life than to the mosquito population
➢4. Aquarium Therapy
●Contemplation of fish in an aquarium have a significant effect in reducing levels
of stress and anxiety. Additional studies confirm that watching fish in an
aquarium can be effective in reducing anxiety in patients awaiting dental surgery.
●Observation of aquaria has also been shown to reduce muscle tension and
pulse rate in elderly subjects in comparison to control groups who watched a
placebo video tape or a video tape of an aquarium.
●A Purdue study in 2009 examined the effect of aquariums on the nutritional
intake of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The study followed 60
patients in three health care facilities. In two facilities patients were exposed to
aquaria, and the patients in the third facility were used as a control group and
exposed to paintings of seascapes.
●Patients exposed to the aquaria averaged an increase of 17.2 percent in the
amount of food they consumed. Weight also increased significantly, and the
patients required fewer nutritional supplements. In addition to the nutritional
benefits, there was also a noticeable decrease in physically aggressive
behaviors among the patients.
●In feng shui, moving water is considered beneficial in
balancing chi, and a well maintained aquarium in the right
location increases wealth and luck.
➢5. The Idea of Pisces
Nowadays, it is very common to see aquarias, or fish
tanks in other words, have been a part of interior
installation art design. Plenty of us decorate the
aquarias creatively by putting some water plants,
stones, marbles and sculptures inside the water,
there even appears several colorful, modified-genetic
fishes for customers to purchase.
In order to prevent the nightmare of destroying the
eco-environment from happening, prevent those poor,
innocent fishes from being abandoned, we promote
the concept of Pisces! It is a win-win strategic mode
for both human beings and the environment. We can
enjoy breeding fishes without making any burdens to
the natural habitat.
Advantages of Pisces
Pisces, a prototype of a robot fish, can swim
continuously and randomly in the wather by using its
wireless charging technique.
Other than normal robot fishes, Pisces not only adopt
wireless charging technique to maintain its power, but
also use artificial silicon skin to maintain its
appearance. Plus furthermore suitable, potential,
versatile features on Pisces, makes Pisces not just a
robot, but a real functional installation art itself.
Therefore, if Pisces has been popularized in the future,
and of course replaced the zoetic fish eventually, it
must do significantly contribution to the protection of
the natural habitat.
Pisces can be customized as well. People can design
their own Pisces, and decrease the probability of
abandoning fishes to the rivers and lakes just like
before. Pisces keep not only the spirit of original
installation art, but also the effect of aquarium therapy.
Combinations with extensive use of Technology
Imagine that if breeding fishes is not only for the purpose of watching, but also for our home safety,
thus, breeding fishes would become necessary for every family.
We could attempt to add features in Pisces, such as surveillance system and romote controlling
system, changing the ornament fishes become smart fishes.
1.Surveillance system: By using
fish- eyed camera lens and cloud
network device, Pisces can
moniter the house ramdomly and
transfer the screen from their eyes
to your cellphone immediately.
Other than normal surveillance
camera, Pisces provide non-fixed
scope of screen, in other words,
they are as if security guards
patrolling our home.
3.Remote controlling system: By
using Wifi cloud IR remote
controller, Pisces can be as if a
versatile controller. For example,
we can turn on the air conditioner,
and of course other eletronic
devices either, far away from
home by Pisces easily.
2.Automatic swimming program:
By inserting IC chip, Pisces can
swim randomly due to
alternative variable function
inside the program.
Four Major Features of Pisces
Automatic swimming
movement program
Wifi Cloud IR remote
control
Wireless charging
technique
Surveillance system
➢ 6. The Problem of High Cost (Cons)
Perhaps it is difficult to add so many functions on every Pisces fish, and definitely Pisces may comfront a
large cost on production process. If we transfer some features from Pisces to the fish tank, this idea will be
more feasible. For example, we can set the wireless charging equipment on the tank or even we can
make it connects with wifi either. As we breed the lifeless fish in aquaria, we don’t need to change the
clear water often and feed them regularly. Therefore, we can change the shape of aquarias into sealed
tank either!
➢7. Combination of Pisces and Interior
DesignMexican famous architect, Luis Barragan, once said, “Beauty lies in the
combination of natural landscape and artistic expression.”
Imagine that if we put Pisces into interior design, we will create several
advantages to our lives. (Pros)
➔ First, it combines with the concept of eco-friendly, avoiding influencing the health of zoetic fishes
due to home decoration and feng-shui which related to human being’s selfish demand . Besides, it
won’t lead to the result of abandoning fishes again, in other words, it decreaces the possibility of
environment catastrophe .
➔ Second, since it remains the appearance of the fish, there are also the effect of “Aquarium Therapy”
which makes breeders relieve from pressure. Bringing the effect into the home, make our houses’
function become more powerful.
➔ Third, due to Pisces’ four features, making the fish aquarias are not simply decorations in houses
and firms anymore. It will turn out to be a smart home system as if guardians of our houses and
commercial offices.
➔ Fourth, we could realize our dreams about watching fishes in the aquarium and sleep at home!
Pisces create Eco-friendly Living
One famous British prime minister, Winston Churchil, once said, “We shape our
buildings; thereafter they shape us.”
Nowadays, building construction so emphasize on eco-friendly, thus we have a
concept of "Green Building”(or Ecological Architecture, Sustainable Architecture,
Environmental Architecture). Please think about one thing, is it only plants, soil
and solar panels can make the building look more spectacular and more
environmental friendly?
If we introduce Pisces system into construction, it still remains the same idea of
eco-friendly as "Green Building," but not emphasize on the importance of energy
saving. It focuses on human being’s physical and spiritual health and the balance
of the biosphere. Perhaps it will even become "Biosphere-Friendly Building’’ in the
future.
➢8. Reasons why Pisces are crutial to biosphere
Instead of installing Pisces, if we use the existing automatic fish feeding device, water
circulator, and oxygen supply device, we could actually get rid of lots of troubles while
breeding zoetic fishes. However, the real problem, which those ornamental fishes are still
imprisoned, hasn’t being solved yet.
The movie "Finding Nemo" has truely told us that overfishing and catching fishes for sale are
for the purpose of fulfilling people’s greedy demand, forcing those fishes to be restricted to
swim in an ornamental aquarium, eat fodder, and live till the fishes are dead. Thereafter, the
bodies floating among aquarium cause water pollution and infect other fishes; nevertheless,
breeders have to pick up the other fishes to isolate from the disease and clean the entire
tank eventually.
Think differently, the situation is as if prisoning numerous humans into a small jail, and when
someone dies, no matter how he dies, of illness or from any unexpectable tragedy, he might
have led health hazards to the entire people in this jail. As a result, we find that the
conclusion of breeding those ornamental fishes is, in fact, the more we breed them, the
more is to harm them!
➢9. Conclusion
All in all, Pisces is a Eco-Interior Designed Smart Home System and its prototype
is a robot fish with four features, which are wireless charging technique, automatic
swimming movement program, surveillance system and Wifi cloud IR(infrared)
remote controling system. Nonetheless, we believe that Pisces, the robot fish, will
replace the tradition of breeding ornament fishes. Once the decreasing demand of
the ornament fishes, the problems of abandonment and illegal fishing will disppear.
It is a wonderful idea to build a eco-balance biosphere.

Pisces

  • 1. Pisces Eco-Interior Designed Smart Home System Participant: Yu Shun-Ping & Chen Pao-Ju
  • 2. Outline ● Origin of the Concept ● Combination of four disciplines ● Problems in Traditional Breeding ● Aquarium Therapy ● The Idea of Pisces ● The Problem of High Cost(Cons) ● Combination of Pisces and Interior Design(Pros) ● Reasons why Pisces are crutial to biosphere ● Conclusion
  • 3. ➢1.Origin of the Concept Believed that many of us had experience of fish farming, and we used to breed the fishes in fish tanks as a part of fabulous decorations to our home. However, it seems quite not an easy thing to breed the fishes if we want to take good care of them for a long period. Breeding fishes takes a lot efforts on many aspects as you may imagine, such as buying food pellets and water plants, cleaning the tanks and filters, installing water pumps and thermostats, and so on. The most important thing we should not forget while breeding is to keep the water they live clean and fresh! Take my tragic experience for instance, one time I failed to install the water pump accurately, causing the fishes died because of oxygen deficit. Worst of all, the dead fishes polluted the water, making the environment stinky, smelly and disgusting. In addition, it seemed that the money I spent on buying equipments for breeding were all in vain. Unfamiliar to the oxygen level in the water, unsure for the temperature of the water, and I believed there are many other factors which made breeding fishes become a series of complicated process; as a result, not just me, I believed everyone would gradually lose passion on breeding fishes.
  • 5. ➢3. Problems in Traditional Breeding Decoration purpose & Breeding as a hobby Abandon or give up to breed fishes & Causing environmental problems and habitat crisis A. Water pollution If owners chose to abandon the fishes in the river or the lake, it might put the fishes in danger, or on the contrary, the fishes might reproduce in an amazing speed which threaten the original habitat and lead to severe environment crisis, such as the destruction of food chain system. When the nightmare came true, the dead creatures will definitely pollute the water. Discover the difficulty of breeding and the vulnerability of the creature
  • 6. B. Changing Ecosystem (Examples) ➔ Caulerpa taxifolia Caulerpa is a specific strain of this alga thrived in cold aquarium environments. Selective breeding under exposure to both chemicals and ultra-violet light produced even hardier Caulerpa strains. When it eventually found its way into the Mediterranean, widespread concern developed that the plant threatened to alter the entire ecosystem by crowding out native seaweed while being inedible to animals. ➔ Carp(Cyprinus carpio) &、Tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus) In absence of natural predators or commercial fishing, carp may extensively alter their environments due to their reproductive rate and their feeding habit of grubbing through bottom sediments for food. In feeding, they may destroy, uproot, disturb and eat submerged vegetation, causing serious damage to native duck, such ascanvasbacks, and fish populations. Tilapias have been of major importance in artisan fishing in Africa and the Middle East, and they are of increasing importance in aquaculture and aquaponics. Tilapia can become problematic invasive species in new warm-water habitats such asAustralia, whether deliberately or accidentally introduced, but generally not in temperate climates due to their inability to survive in cold water. ➔Mosquitofish Mosquitofish were intentionally introduced in many areas with large mosquito populations to decrease the population of mosquitoes by eating the mosquito larvae. However, most introductions were ill-advised; in most cases native fish had already proven to supply maximal control of mosquito population and introducing mosquitofish has been more harmful to indigenous aquatic life than to the mosquito population
  • 7. ➢4. Aquarium Therapy ●Contemplation of fish in an aquarium have a significant effect in reducing levels of stress and anxiety. Additional studies confirm that watching fish in an aquarium can be effective in reducing anxiety in patients awaiting dental surgery. ●Observation of aquaria has also been shown to reduce muscle tension and pulse rate in elderly subjects in comparison to control groups who watched a placebo video tape or a video tape of an aquarium. ●A Purdue study in 2009 examined the effect of aquariums on the nutritional intake of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The study followed 60 patients in three health care facilities. In two facilities patients were exposed to aquaria, and the patients in the third facility were used as a control group and exposed to paintings of seascapes. ●Patients exposed to the aquaria averaged an increase of 17.2 percent in the amount of food they consumed. Weight also increased significantly, and the patients required fewer nutritional supplements. In addition to the nutritional benefits, there was also a noticeable decrease in physically aggressive behaviors among the patients. ●In feng shui, moving water is considered beneficial in balancing chi, and a well maintained aquarium in the right location increases wealth and luck.
  • 8. ➢5. The Idea of Pisces Nowadays, it is very common to see aquarias, or fish tanks in other words, have been a part of interior installation art design. Plenty of us decorate the aquarias creatively by putting some water plants, stones, marbles and sculptures inside the water, there even appears several colorful, modified-genetic fishes for customers to purchase. In order to prevent the nightmare of destroying the eco-environment from happening, prevent those poor, innocent fishes from being abandoned, we promote the concept of Pisces! It is a win-win strategic mode for both human beings and the environment. We can enjoy breeding fishes without making any burdens to the natural habitat.
  • 9. Advantages of Pisces Pisces, a prototype of a robot fish, can swim continuously and randomly in the wather by using its wireless charging technique. Other than normal robot fishes, Pisces not only adopt wireless charging technique to maintain its power, but also use artificial silicon skin to maintain its appearance. Plus furthermore suitable, potential, versatile features on Pisces, makes Pisces not just a robot, but a real functional installation art itself. Therefore, if Pisces has been popularized in the future, and of course replaced the zoetic fish eventually, it must do significantly contribution to the protection of the natural habitat. Pisces can be customized as well. People can design their own Pisces, and decrease the probability of abandoning fishes to the rivers and lakes just like before. Pisces keep not only the spirit of original installation art, but also the effect of aquarium therapy.
  • 10. Combinations with extensive use of Technology Imagine that if breeding fishes is not only for the purpose of watching, but also for our home safety, thus, breeding fishes would become necessary for every family. We could attempt to add features in Pisces, such as surveillance system and romote controlling system, changing the ornament fishes become smart fishes. 1.Surveillance system: By using fish- eyed camera lens and cloud network device, Pisces can moniter the house ramdomly and transfer the screen from their eyes to your cellphone immediately. Other than normal surveillance camera, Pisces provide non-fixed scope of screen, in other words, they are as if security guards patrolling our home. 3.Remote controlling system: By using Wifi cloud IR remote controller, Pisces can be as if a versatile controller. For example, we can turn on the air conditioner, and of course other eletronic devices either, far away from home by Pisces easily. 2.Automatic swimming program: By inserting IC chip, Pisces can swim randomly due to alternative variable function inside the program.
  • 11. Four Major Features of Pisces Automatic swimming movement program Wifi Cloud IR remote control Wireless charging technique Surveillance system
  • 12. ➢ 6. The Problem of High Cost (Cons) Perhaps it is difficult to add so many functions on every Pisces fish, and definitely Pisces may comfront a large cost on production process. If we transfer some features from Pisces to the fish tank, this idea will be more feasible. For example, we can set the wireless charging equipment on the tank or even we can make it connects with wifi either. As we breed the lifeless fish in aquaria, we don’t need to change the clear water often and feed them regularly. Therefore, we can change the shape of aquarias into sealed tank either!
  • 13. ➢7. Combination of Pisces and Interior DesignMexican famous architect, Luis Barragan, once said, “Beauty lies in the combination of natural landscape and artistic expression.” Imagine that if we put Pisces into interior design, we will create several advantages to our lives. (Pros) ➔ First, it combines with the concept of eco-friendly, avoiding influencing the health of zoetic fishes due to home decoration and feng-shui which related to human being’s selfish demand . Besides, it won’t lead to the result of abandoning fishes again, in other words, it decreaces the possibility of environment catastrophe . ➔ Second, since it remains the appearance of the fish, there are also the effect of “Aquarium Therapy” which makes breeders relieve from pressure. Bringing the effect into the home, make our houses’ function become more powerful. ➔ Third, due to Pisces’ four features, making the fish aquarias are not simply decorations in houses and firms anymore. It will turn out to be a smart home system as if guardians of our houses and commercial offices. ➔ Fourth, we could realize our dreams about watching fishes in the aquarium and sleep at home!
  • 14. Pisces create Eco-friendly Living One famous British prime minister, Winston Churchil, once said, “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” Nowadays, building construction so emphasize on eco-friendly, thus we have a concept of "Green Building”(or Ecological Architecture, Sustainable Architecture, Environmental Architecture). Please think about one thing, is it only plants, soil and solar panels can make the building look more spectacular and more environmental friendly? If we introduce Pisces system into construction, it still remains the same idea of eco-friendly as "Green Building," but not emphasize on the importance of energy saving. It focuses on human being’s physical and spiritual health and the balance of the biosphere. Perhaps it will even become "Biosphere-Friendly Building’’ in the future.
  • 15. ➢8. Reasons why Pisces are crutial to biosphere Instead of installing Pisces, if we use the existing automatic fish feeding device, water circulator, and oxygen supply device, we could actually get rid of lots of troubles while breeding zoetic fishes. However, the real problem, which those ornamental fishes are still imprisoned, hasn’t being solved yet. The movie "Finding Nemo" has truely told us that overfishing and catching fishes for sale are for the purpose of fulfilling people’s greedy demand, forcing those fishes to be restricted to swim in an ornamental aquarium, eat fodder, and live till the fishes are dead. Thereafter, the bodies floating among aquarium cause water pollution and infect other fishes; nevertheless, breeders have to pick up the other fishes to isolate from the disease and clean the entire tank eventually. Think differently, the situation is as if prisoning numerous humans into a small jail, and when someone dies, no matter how he dies, of illness or from any unexpectable tragedy, he might have led health hazards to the entire people in this jail. As a result, we find that the conclusion of breeding those ornamental fishes is, in fact, the more we breed them, the more is to harm them!
  • 16. ➢9. Conclusion All in all, Pisces is a Eco-Interior Designed Smart Home System and its prototype is a robot fish with four features, which are wireless charging technique, automatic swimming movement program, surveillance system and Wifi cloud IR(infrared) remote controling system. Nonetheless, we believe that Pisces, the robot fish, will replace the tradition of breeding ornament fishes. Once the decreasing demand of the ornament fishes, the problems of abandonment and illegal fishing will disppear. It is a wonderful idea to build a eco-balance biosphere.
