Kennedy Center Partners In Education Annual Meeting: Bright Ideas - MI 1997 T...npmarket
University Musical Society and its educational partners Ann Arbor Public Schools and Washtenaw Intermediate School District share their "TalkOut" program:
TalkOut: Hearing What Youth Say About Live Performance
Last year during the Kennedy Center Annual Meeting, MI 1997 (University Musical Society, Ann Arbor Public Schools, Washtenaw Intermediate School District), with the guidance of Eric Booth, designed an experiment that would allow the team to better capture the impact of its School Day Performances on youth, while also making connections to the Common Core standards. TalkOut was born: a live, post-performance chat format that invites students to the stage to talk about and reflect upon their experience immediately following the show. UMS Director of Education & Community Engagement Jim Leija will talk about the ins and outs of launching this project, and share some of the students’ responses.
This presentation will give a list of several different iPad apps that are great for the classroom. Teacher apps are listed first and include apps for teaching, organizing, and learning. Student apps are centered around letting students show off what they have learned!

Transform Your School: Practical Tips for Starting a MakerspaceDiana Rendina
Makerspaces are an amazing way to bring STEAM, creativity and informal learning into your school, but with so much information out there, many educators aren’t sure of where to get started. In this session, you will get ideas and inspiration on how to bring the Maker Education Movement into your school. Topics covered will include: cultivating a Maker culture, getting student input, finding space, securing funds and donations, gathering supplies, making it happen, and sharing with others. Throughout the presentation, you will see examples from the creation of our school’s library Makerspace, as well as examples from other schools.

How do institutions effectively utilize the full potential of visual media to communicate their strategic messaging? This session will explore the power of documentary-style short-form video production to engage targeted audiences with compelling stories.
Through case studies, participants will learn how to identify, design and produce documentary-style stories that deliver marketing messages with authenticity; to leverage the impact of those stories in social and online platforms; and examine the potential of hybrid formats like Instagram and Snapchat.
Ready, Aim, Fire: A presentation about technology integration and iPad integr...Joan E. Hughes, Ph.D.
In this presentation, I speak about the challenges of technology integration with a group of U.S. K-12 district superintendents and principals. I use my recent research on a high school's endeavor to integrate iPads into teaching and learning to situate my remarks about technology integration.
