THE PLANT PHYLLANTHUS NIRURI IS USE TO TREAT LIVER DYSFUNCTIONING HERE WE HAVE DESCRIBED THE BIOLOGICAL SOURCE, FAMILY, CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS, ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS AND STRUCTURE AND MEDICINAL USES.
2. •PHYLLANTHUS NIRURI
• Biological source: It consists of all aerial parts of the plant Phyllanthus
niruri belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae
• It contains not less than 0.25% of total phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin on
dried basis.
• Geographical source : Plant is found abundantly throughout india mainly in
Maharashtra, UP, Punjab, Bihar, Orisa, AP, and some parts of MP, karnataka and
Bengal
3. Extraction of phyllanthin
• Thirty grams of powdered leaves of P. niruri were placed in a thimble
which was inserted into a Soxhlet apparatus and extracted with 300
mL methanol.
• Extraction was performed for 24 h. After extraction, the extract was
concentrated at 40 °C using a rotary vacuum evaporator
• Analyzed for phyllanhin content by HPLC.
4. MOA
Inhibits viral DNA polymerase of Hepatitis-B virus :-
DNA polymerase is the one of the enzyme which is responsible for
the synthesis of DNA molecule .and after the inhibition of these enzyme
there is no formation of the DNA molecule of the virus . So the net result
is multiplication of these virus totally affected .
Phyllanthin binds to hepatitis B surface antigen:-
when the phyllanthin binds on the hepatitis B surface antigen
damage, of cell wall of the virus is prominently occur by this
mechanism phyllanthin act as anti- Hepatitis agent .
7. Uses
It has antioxidant properties.
It has antimicrobial properties.
It has anti-inflammatory properties.
It may help lower blood sugar.
It may help prevent kidney stones.
