To create the illusion of a single image, Photoshop was used to manipulate multiple images. Unwanted items were removed from the background image using selection tools. Then, the astronaut foreground image was selected using the Polygonal Lasso Tool to cut out the unwanted background. This astronaut image was placed on the Mars background. Additional editing was done to resolve issues like the blue Earth still visible in the astronaut's helmet visor by cutting around the transparent part and placing it on a new layer with its blending mode set to screen. Simple enlargements of the foreground image then allowed it to fit proportions of the background layer.

1. production experiments
Bronte Parsons conducted experiments with animation techniques in Adobe Animate. For the first scene, a man running away from a car was animated by toggling the visibility of layers as they moved forward each frame. A scrolling background was also created by drawing a wider background and using tweening to make it loop as it moved left. Finally, a technique was practiced for a shovel sticking out of the ground by cutting the overlapping area to a new layer to keep it in line with the rest of the shovel. These layer animation and scrolling background techniques will be useful for Bronte's final product.

Colour correction
Colour plays an important role in film by conveying different moods and emotions through its use. The colour grading process during post-production allows precise control over the colours in a film by manipulating the lightness, darkness and hue of the footage. Effective colour grading adds meaning and triggers emotional responses in audiences by dominating scenes with certain colour palettes like using reds to create warmth or blues to imply coldness.
Chase
Chase sequences involve fast-paced editing between shots of a protagonist and antagonist. Editing a chase sequence from mobile phone footage was challenging due to the unsteady handheld shots. Cutting between clips was jarring due to different movement within each shot. Getting stationary shots would have helped. There was also a lack of coverage from different angles and close-ups, leaving out key details and making the editing less interesting. Planning shots like famous chase sequences would improve coverage and variety for a more engaging edit.
Point break
The chase sequence in Point Break uses fast cuts and handheld footage to build tension as two men struggle to catch up to or get away from each other. Cross-cuts show both perspectives, creating more depth and tension as the audience does not know their proximity. Comedy is also generated when one man throws a dog to distract the other. The scene ends with slow motion shots and dramatic music to reinforce the tension and signal the climax.
The little things

Photoshop for blog
- 1. 25/01/2016 Photoshop Photoshop skills are required in order to manipulate images before running them through After Effects to be animated and used in film. I have used basic tools and skills to place one image over the next to create the illusion of a single image. To begin the process, unwanted items had to be removed from the background image. This was done using the rectangular marquee tool to select the image and use the content aware option to replace it with what would be behind it to produce a smooth image. Next the foreground image was selected and the Polygonal Lasso tool utilised to select the unwanted background from the astronaut. Once this was completed the new foreground image of the astronaut could be placed onto the Mars background. Although the astronaut had been ‘cut out’ the Polygonal Lasso tool had to be used again in order to resolve the issue of the blue Earth background still being visible in the helmet. To prevent the image looking over- edited and out of place, the transparent helmet visor needed to stay in the final image but with the new background visible through it. I cut around the transparent part of the helmet and separated it from the original image by placing it onto a new layer. I could then change the blending mode of this new layer to screen so that the red Mars layer could be seen through the transparent helmet visor. Simple enlargements were then made to the foreground image using the transform controls so that it fit to the proportions of the background layer.
