This document summarizes a presentation given by Phil Hill at the eLearning 3.0 conference on May 14, 2019 about the future of learning platforms. It discusses how learning platforms are moving beyond just digitizing traditional classrooms and are now able to personalize learning through sensing student experiences and customizing content for each student. Modern online courses and platforms already implement some concepts of personalized learning but still have room for improvement. The presentation argues that technology can help teachers provide differentiated instruction informed by cognitive science principles when tailored to individual student situations.
